Ghost is the most impactful d man on the team. It'd be fun long term to pair him with Provy in the future, but I want him to have the best partner he can. I don't want Streit or Manning in the top 4 either when we can have either MDZ or Gudas on the ice 70+% of the time. NHL today is about top 4s.

Definitely. For me it's about having someone reliable. Limited is one thing but being an unreliable defensive partner is not what the kids should be experiencing.

You can juggle the pairs, too. It's being done now by Hakstol, throughout the game.

There's a good chance Streit can get back to his solid play of the tail end of the season, if not all the way back to where he was in 2014-15. If that happens and you have Manning maintaining his current level of play, then the D could be quite solid.

Dunno who Hak will sit, but Schultz and Manning are being used the least.

Well, he has been a reliable coverage guy in his own end in the past and more prone to issues in the NZ. If they can get solid play for the top 4, a guy who isn't aggressively hurting them is fine in the 3rd pair.

I want a true top pairing. MDZ and Gudas have shown they were able to provide that.

Need to shelter Ghost and Provorov a little. Playing them on the big squad is one thing, throwing them to the wolves is another.

Provorov has the potential but YES! For the love of God, we have nothing resembling a number one defenseman or a top pair. Anyone who even has a basic understanding or casually watches hockey knows who the number defenseman is for 90% of each team in the league and most know who the cream of the crop are within the entire league.

I think between Streit and MacDonald sitting. You can't sit Streit. He's not playing well but he's the most senior veteran player on the team and an assistant captain. Those reasons mean something within the dynamic of a NHL team with a lot of new faces and even some teenagers. Well that and the fact that MacDonald has been playing worse in the most recent games after having a fabulous preseason and 1st couple of games.
