Because good coaches believe they can steer the ship in the right direction.
I said the 20 game mark they had to be at .500 otherwise WD would be gone. - manvanfan
Ya I figured 25 games. |

I would resign Miller as a back up if its for back up money. - thundachunk
Highly doubt he'll stay for backup money. Dozens of goalies out there that will allow 4-5 goals every game for around 1 mil per…no point keeping Miller around to do that. |

Clarkson 26 points in 118 games. Eriksson currently on pace for 25 points in 75 games.
Trade Edler and Hansen would be like trading Phanuef and Kessel.
Kardi and Bo , yup.
Bozak was 27 when they started the rebuild, is now 30 when the rebuild is turning around. So Basically Bozak is Van's Sutter.
If it was the last year of the Sedin's contract I think they would be more willing to go to different teams if they separated. No team is going to take on both of them. With enough ELC contracts. They will need the Sedin's cap hit just to get to the floor. - manvanfan
I don't like Edler but the team needs him to shelter Stecher and Juolevi.
A team Like the Preds have 4.5 in cap space . Ryan Ellis has a 2.5 salary for three more years.
I offer them Sedins and Hutton for a combined 7 mil cap hit . Canucks get back Ellis a first 2017 and a second 2018. Ellis is 25 years old |

ok, maybe I shouldn't be listening, but 1040 is talking about JV being sent to Utica and the 2 game discussion, speculation (not sure if it is from Botch) is that ownership is meddling and don't want to see JV in Utica...
but besides all that, crazy Canadian market with a bad team and high expectations would be my guess in why a good coach may not look at this as a very good opportunity. not set up for success.
I want a team that battles and I want to see them challenge for a playoff spot but I also want long term success. I won't be upset if we miss the playoffs and get a good pick, but at the same time, I want to see a good effort from guys or bring in guys that will play harder.
they have to provide entertainment even if they are losing.

Why Do Canucks have that many top end Dmen that there is no room for him? |

I feel the exact same.
JV isn't providing any entertainment anyways.
A mix of young, middle aged and old. If the Sedin's weren't on this team, the average age would be probably 24. Youngest in the team by far. |

Well considering the right side is Tanev, Gudbranson, Stecher, Tryamkin all of which I would take over Ellis every single game. Larsen has as many points as Ellis and cost's 1.5 million less. |

In the last two years Ellis has scored 19 goals and 59 assists . That is more than the entire Cancucks D core for last year |

I'm actually very shocked at the Canucks up to this point. Before the season started I had them pegged to make the playoffs. |

I don't know that anyone said it was their fault we are losing. I think what I was saying that they are hindering our progress.
We can't start the change until they are gone.

He plays on a team that hasn't sucked. Is he going to magically make the forwards score? no. |

Thats fine . Any back up is OK . I just think he is a better back up than what would be on the open market - VANTEL
The cost would be too high....I'm thinking in his mind he's still a starter, which means he won't settle for a back ups salary.

I'm shocked that you had them in the playoffs. I think most had them squeaking into the 8th spot if they had a good year |

Never said he was.
What the trade does is gets you two high draft picks , 6 million in cap space , and a Dman that is young and can fit nicely into the mold.
What are you expecting for two ready to retire expensive players? |

If you can get him for under 3 mil do it if not don't . |

I disagree. Fact is I think they are helping. We can change and have. Fact is the team as a whole isn't good enough. They will sign again for 1 year maybe 2 for less money. They are the face of the franchise. |

I'm not expecting them to wave their NTC's. |

We should sign Kovalchuk. He would cost almost nothing. We wouldn't have to trade anyone for him either. |

If healthy this club could maybe hit the 16-20 slots…but it's apparent that we are soft, fragile and are never really going to be fully healthy so it's bottom 10 for a bit. |

They may be the face of the franchise but it is an ugly face right now. Carrie Fisher when she did the first Star Wars was hot , now she is
Canucks are Carrie Fisher |
