These teams have sucked for years. They supposedly tanked on purpose for Mcdavid.... guess how that worked out.
The Leafs tried again and got Mathews... so that gamble worked but at hat point they had no one left to play so was it a tank or a team that was just plain bad with zero hope to win. Now they are a bad team with hope.... so lots of years of sucking not a couple .... - Nuck4U
Wrong. Tanking is attempting to finish last to get the top pick. Matthews and Eichel... I'll take two future all-star centers I sure wish were Canucks for 500 Alex |

Not sure how much Miller's St Louis experience spoils his playoff reputation around the league, but Dallas is a team that cannot afford another goaltender. Nashville is Rinne or bust, and Philly actually has had really good numbers with their tandem last year. They would be the ones I could see making a move, but I dont think they are pushing that strongly this year to make a move - WhiteLie
Pretty well covered it and why goalie market is not so rich |

We got BB then he's not bad .... so it's possible not to suck and still draft well... generational players aside like Mcdavid |

Well, if Dallas was to make a trade, one of there goalies would have to come back plus a pick or prospect. Both have contracts till 17-18 Lethonen at 5.9 and Niemi at 4.5. Which would be fine to me. Have them back up Markstrom next year, which gives Demko the time to learn antoher year. In Nashville, Rinne's numbers have been steadily decling. He's signed for another 3 yrs, so Miller would be coming in as a stop gap. I know Rinne had a good week, but its been a while since that happened. And like you said, Philly had great goaltending...last year. THis year, not so much. If the Flyers r close at the deadline, why not pick up a solid goalie to go with Voracek, Simmonds, Giroux, Schenn and Konecny along with thier young up and coming blueliners Ghost, Manning and PRoverov. We'd have to c about what other GM's think about Miller's few months in St. Louis tho |

Wasn't Calgary's ownership/management accused of being delusional about their team's future regarding holding onto Kiprusof & Iginla too long before they traded Iggy at the age of 35?
How old are the Sedin's now? - magmoo
Sedins aren't going anywhere. They are here until the end like it or not. They are good mentors for the kids.
Now if only the Canucks had an heir apparent 1st line. |

Do you even follow hockey? Buffalo did not suck for years. As little as seven seasons ago (2010) they were a 100 point team, the following year they were a 96 point team, both years they were in the playoffs.
In 2012 they declined with an 89 point team then the lockout shortened year happened in 2013, they finished 23rd in the league and decided to hit the reset button for McDavid.
So as little as three years ago is when they decided to rebuild, the finished last in the league two years in a row and then last year they had an 81 point season.
The Sabres have some great young players and realistically they've only been bad for four years. The Canucks have been bad for two of the last three years, we're still trending down while they're trending up.
Just sayin |

The do you even follow comment ... not needed...if you want to make another point fine. Yes the Sabers had a brief bump in between the sucking with new ownership that bought a lot of UFAs. That worked out ...not... they have tried trades and drafting.... still not good though with all those years of drafting ... right...no contender there.
The only difference between what you want to say and my point is that building through the draft in a lottery reality doesn't mean you need to PUPOSEFULLY make moves to suck. This team may finish near the bottom regardless ... they will take their chances on the lotto and draft. If they somehow find a way to the playoffs... Big IF... then they can still draft well and find a BB. There are no generational 1OA like Mcdavid coming any time soon. Reality we have to live with and just draft well and build. |

We had had a chance lost the lottery so saying that doesn't mean anything .... no matter where you finish you got 3 chances to win a top 3 ... lose and well that's that... draft what you can.... teams really have no control over is all they can do is draft as well as possible and develop what they got which means improve the team... |

That is that poop straight from the horse's behind my good man. Ristolinen, Grigorenko, Zadorov, Rienhardt, Eichel... You build assets, then you have assets to trade/build around. Grigs and Zadorov landed them O'Rielly who is one of the best(and underrated) young centers in the league (hence him making team Canada). All top-ten picks. Am I saying no other draft picks can pan out? no. of course not, that's just silly. But top-5 and top-10 is where the valued players are, the most sure-fire, blue chips. Trading to be a bubble team at this point is a joke. A bad joke. Canucks in the playoffs this year would be even more embarassing than when we lost to Calgary... and that stung. |

Still picked 4th. Still got a potentially great piece. "all they can do is draft as well as possible" Ya and the best way to do this is to pick high in every round of the draft, it's not rocket surgery. |

This team is in a rebuild. Which means improve the team. Not try to find ways to gut it and make it worse. As long as they improve throug the draft, find UFA's like Stecher, and not make trades that sacrifices youth and draft picks. It's a rebuild that will have staying power. We can all debate who and when to turn over for a trade but that's just timing in the end. |
