Carol Schram: Young defense steps up as Vancouver Canucks come back for 5-4 win over Wild
Vancouver fans left Rogers Arena fully entertained on Tuesday night after the Canucks beat the Minnesota Wild 5-4 thanks to a late deflected goal by Sven Beartschi.

Has anybody mentioned that the 143 Year Old Canucks' D is only 143?

I'd really like to see how that same group looks with Tanev swapped in to replace Larsen. He and Tryamkin could be a very effective shutdown and PK pairing.

Sure would be an upgrade over PL. Right now the closest 1D we have is Edler. Yes he has flaws. Yes he doesn't live up to high end 1D levels. Tanev same for other reasons.

Do any of the young guys left have that potential? Big maybe on Tree developing there in years to come. Stecher. Great D but is he really #1 material? Hutton has struggled with pressure but is improving. We all have hopes for OJ how far away? Collectively they can make up for lack of 1D.

Anyway point is Canucks don't have a #1D and should they push to trade their senior assiets for future rebuild players? It will take away now but open door for new ones to develop. Maybe these assets are turned into draft picks that JB grabs for the forward and defensive upgrades to young core.

Miller would be an immediate upgrade over a ton of teams backup goalies. He has no reason to NOT want to go to a cup contending team this TDL.

Like he fact EK has kisted Miller as top 5 rental. Can we add to that list Burr. And raise you an Edler as more than rent? The future is now JB go for it.

That 5th goal was pure luck but it's about time a bounce went their way!

Expiring contract in last half of season shouldn't be an issue. Plus he would be a 1B tandem type at the very least.

He won't cost that much at TDL.

Lol like the Wild 4th bouncer? The list can go on for recent spouts against. But who says bounces don't count

His playoff performance with St Louis will impact his value. Sorry Bloated, he probably has limited value even if we absorb salary.

Canucks keep some salary and it is pro rated and expiring. That's not much of a problem for a team.

Nobody is trading for Miller to be their backup. If a contender gets an injury to their starter near the deadline it would be the perfect storm

I can't imagine there is much of a market but I hope I am wrong! If we could add a 2nd rounder that would be fantastic

If you look at the LA for example, they had quick and zatkoff hurt and lucked out with some decent play by Budaj. LA might be a good fit for him at TDL as zatkoff hasn't proven much.

Habs Montoya let in 10 goals in one game at CBJ - I wouldn't be too confident with that.

I think teams would definitely be calling to see what kind of salary could be retained in a deal for Miller as a backup.

Question is, why the hell did he come here in the first place?

A follow up question...would Miller waive to backup Carey Price? I doubt it.

Yeah, I see Miller as a smart goalie with a lot of pride in his game, don't know if he would so easily as some think go to a contending team with a top tier starter. He'd probably want to go to a contending team if he was guaranteed some starts in the playoffs.

Why not? He gets paid regardless, plays out the remainder of the year on a winning team, his stock may go up, and he has the chance to get his name on the cup. Price got "accidently" run into by kreider a couple years ago and the habs went as far as they could with Condon. All I am saying is that if I am miller, I know my contract is expiring and with the team that is playing in front of him now, isn't exactly making his stock super high for his next contract.

I think Miller would want to go to any team that is in the playoff race, regardless of how many games he expects to start.

Does he have a NMC?

So he could do a Vrbata and list teams that have no desire/ability to trade for him.
Say Phx, Detroit, NYI, Calgary, NJ.

or

He could be cool and list teams that have space/need.

From this Down Goes Brown piece counting down the NHL teams most in need of a rebuild:

But instead, let's just point out the obvious: When you saw the premise of this post, you immediately thought "Ah, OK, so the Canucks are going to be ranked number one."

He could do that, but I think cases like Vrbata's happen less often than players waiving and going to contending teams.
