He could do that, but I think cases like Vrbata's happen less often than players waiving and going to contending teams. - Codes1087
5 is not a lot of leverage for a GM though.

$6MM backup?
- CanuckDon
We can retain the majority of what's left (up to 3mil). It's a non-issue. |

I think Miller would want to go to any team that is in the playoff race, regardless of how many games he expects to start.
Does he have a NMC? - dbot
5 team list thingy I think...

I think Nichushkin is under contract in the KHL, might be something they go for actually. Bit of a long term plan and risky, but I like it. |

His playoff performance with St Louis will impact his value. Sorry Bloated, he probably has limited value even if we absorb salary. - CanuckDon
He's a UFA so as pure rental value is balanced out. Blues experience doesn't say much as they haven't succeeded with any goalie there. Any reason not to trade him for whatever JB can get? Is play off push the real deal? |

Why not? He gets paid regardless, plays out the remainder of the year on a winning team, his stock may go up, and he has the chance to get his name on the cup. Price got "accidently" run into by kreider a couple years ago and the habs went as far as they could with Condon. All I am saying is that if I am miller, I know my contract is expiring and with the team that is playing in front of him now, isn't exactly making his stock super high for his next contract. - Codes1087
For starters, he gets paid playing out his contract and doesn't have to leave the West coast. Perhaps if LA is a fit. I would be surprised if he is going to move to be a backup. Very surprised. As NorthNuck said, he has pride. |

its pro-rated though. I am not entirely sure of the amount owed but I believe it is somewhere around 1/2 to 3/4 of the yearly total. |

Totally get where you are coming from, and I am sure pride will be a huge contributing factor into his decision, but you gotta look at it both ways. He stays and plays on a mediocre team where the most he could fetch at this current rate would probably be between 3.5-4.5 million a year (based off of his stats over the last 3 years) OR he tries to wipe that clean by going to a more talented team, win some games as a backup, tries to carve his name in the cup and hit the open market maximizing his asking price with a new accomplishment on his resume'. Time will tell I guess, but he has to outweigh the pro's and con's of staying and leaving. |

I think he already has. He's accepted he may get traded already in an interview. Burrows did as well. These guys both sound more open to it than Hammer and Vrbada did.

Well this is good news then...hopefully they don't limit the list to 1 team like Kesler and 2 teams for Hamhuis Frank those two |

I hope so! I still find it hard to believe that Burrows has any open market value. I guess if your PK is really bad though |

Burrows is having a good season if you wash away the bad start the entire team had... Any GM on the hunt and weighing out options is going to base their assessment on what he has done recently rather than scrolling back months to find a reason not to add him... especially when the commitment is a mere couple of months.
Burrows is our only + forward right now and can take a lot of credit for our #6 pk. He's also on a scoring run right now... later this season, he will have interest if he doesn't fade away.

..and I doubt that the list will be written in stone. There's no penalty for Miller or JB to settle with a team that wasn't on the list. I sense there will be more cooperation than that. |

Miller's numbers aren't great. We need to hope he picks his play up or he will have very limited value...not that he has been bad, just average. |

His article is the usual bunk. Aging core. Cause we have the Sedins, Burrows and Miller. Guess having the youngest D in NHL now proved him right. |

Not quite that high at TDL and i am sure we can eat 50% of the salary for the rest of the season. we still have 2 salary retention spots available, and would still have 2 at seasons end. |

Mcantyre and other media pundits believe he does. But based on his play of late do you not see it? Savvy vet that can bring it in any role. Playoff performer with timely goals. What any Cup contender would like. |
