What's wrong with the Avalanche? I understand why they weren't all that great after the 2004 lockout and rule changes (salary cap, aging players, loss of star players, bonuses against cap, etc), but they've had over a decade to lose all that baggage and rebuild, and to what end? A team that plays like this?

(1) Poor scouting and drafting has resulted in a team of revolving door castaways?

(2) Lack of a viable system has rendered the team unable to score/possess the puck/own the game?

(3) They have the wrong players for their strategy (play exciting hockey to sell tickets, instead of play a "boring", defensively-responsible system (like Nashville or Minnesota used to, or Dallas and NJ in the late 90's))?

(4) The Avalanche were only good due to Sakic, Forsberg and Roy, and Duchene, MacKinnon and Varlamov aren't that calibre?

(5) There's nothing really wrong with the team: they just have internal issues, perhaps with management, and don't play to win in order to send a message?

(6) Something else?

I just don't get it. I don't think they are as bad as their record this year, and I don't understand how, even though they were over-achieving their first year with Roy, they have dropped back into the late 2000's slump again so thoroughly. Sure we have holes, and some dead weight, and a less-than-stellar defense, and a style of play that frequently leaves the goaltender hanging, but are we really the new Columbus Blue Jackets?

not really, its a poor draft year.

However after 23 games, it was pointed out tonight that the Avs have the exact same record as this year and last year.

I dunno this year seems way more frustrating the last....they seem like a better team this year compared to lasts years train wreck and still have the same record after all these injuries to start?

But with EJ out for 8 weeks, they are going to really nose dive

Bc they were asking Hall for Hamonic and the Oilers wouldnt bit on that, so they figure Hamonic is better than Larsson so he can get top line talent.

I like Hamonic but just bc the Oilers had to make a deal like that, and Hall had his issues aroudn the team, doesnt mean that that same sort of Over paying for dman deal is going to come up for him again.

I could see a Barrie Varly for Hamonic Halak and another asset (Strome perhaps since it seems they under value him). The Hammer for a Top line player deals have passed IMO
