Two teams that have a lot of very young players Arizona and Toronto still not doing very well - manvanfan
Teams like Oilers Islanders Avs had had young skilled players for almost a decade and look where they are.
There is no proven formula |

I have probably been trying to come up with a formula for years. Only thing i've come up is that kids don't win hockey games.
I'm coming around to JB making hockey trades. Instead of waiting 10 years like the Oilers. |

Yesterday when the Oilers lost and Calgary won? Looking at Van's schedule the next 14 games will decide the rest of the season. |

You don't have to wait ten years but it does take time to assemble a group of talented players. It's hard to make trades when you don't have any ammunition and this has been a proven method if you're not looking to win a Cup. Building thru trades doesn't work. |

Well no. The oilers instead of making trades during the process, instead of selling selling selling continually would probably be in a better position.
The leafs 9 years of rebuilding haven't been making any trades and have been trading away just about everything also, have added a lot of young youthful talent that still can't win.
Van who has if you ask many very little young talent that has been making trades is in the same position as the leafs. |

Calgary's bubble will burst soon just like EDM was brought back to reality. I have to say though I would love to see an EDM-CAL first round matchup. #bringbackthe80's
Wow was I off on that game last night...Tampa got pounded by a half-AHL squad man they are struggling right now |

Not after a win. - Marwood
This is the problem. We lose to teams like NJ who are not really contenders then march into Tampa and pound them with a half-AHL team.
We need to lose consistently so we can have Gallant here and Nolan Patrick ready to go for next year. |
|
|
|
Thinking back over the years... all cup winners have built through draft and made key trades to bolster the line up.
Islanders- Butch Goring
Penguins-Ron Francis( Lemieux years) Chris Kunitz (Crosby years)
Flames-Doug Gilmour
Chicago-Hossa
LA Kings-Jeff Carter
Bruins- Zdeno Chara
Colorado-Patrick Roy
Even Detroit and Edmonton added key players for their cup runs.
My point being, both drafting and key trades are essential in building a contender/cup team.
Go Canucks. |

Apparently Tampa fans are very frustrated with how bad their team has been. Think they made us look a lot better than we were last night. |

One mismanaged team doesn't make that the rule, there's a lot of examples of teams winning the Cup because they built a team through the draft and then supplemented those guys through trades and signings. |

Yes and no, he's definitely building thru the draft, although I wish he wouldn't trade so many second round picks. He's only been here just over two years.
His asset management leaves a lot to be desired though. |
