Best D man last year was Ben Hutton. Finished 28 out of 30th in the league. Stecher best D man this year Currently 28 out of 30th in the league. Oh yeah youth wins hockey games. - manvanfan
Youth on D takes more time
Plus both those guys came out of nowhere ...be happy they are there and show potential

Not to sound like an oil fan but man our team's potential has evaporated since 2011. Nice to hear that word again in the same sentence as 'canuck future'.

Strange season for me. The only NHL stat lines I'm interested in looking at are select players on the canucks. I'm not even sure what the canucks record is
Troy (frank)ing Stecher. An undrafted player who played three seasons of college hockey where he tallied 11 points his 1st season, then 13, and 29 points in his final year.
He's played 4 games with the Comets and what, 20 games with the canucks?
And he's quikly becoming the best Dman on the canucks this season.
This team needs to stay away from signing aging free agents and just stick to filling this roster with youth... For the next 3 seasons anyway... - bloatedmosquito

Only Free agents JB has signed was Miller who has been outstanding. Vrbata had a good year and not so good year once WD decided to help the team lose. Eriksson is falling under the same category of WD trying to help the team lose. Van is only seeing the first year of the new management group new draft picks this season. JV, Tryamkin, Demko all show great promise. 3 draft picks from one year is amazing. You could count Forsling also. McCann too.
JB isn't just waiting around to see what this team may or may not have after drafting tops for 5 years. - manvanfan
Miller has been great his past few games yes but consistently outstanding? Can't get there. I think he's been quite disappointing actually but I knew what to expect from Miller at this stage of his career.
Honestly I have expected more out of Markstrom as well. I thought by this point of the year with Millers 'injuries' Markstrom would take this club and run with it but he really hasn't. I afraid to say but I think Markstrom may be hitting his ceiling. It's pretty clear that we won't really be contending again until Demko is developed which it what it is.

They are just in the bottom out faze ...each year you'll start to see more and more kids taking over spots from vets

Young D does take more time. Van had the youngest D in the league at one point in time. Isn't a recipe for success. Look at Dallas from first last year got way younger on the blue line and now are struggling.

The entire team has been disappointing.
I never really thought Markstrom had what it took to be a #1 goalie. I wonder if management is wondering the samething. The talk about extending Miller, and then putting up Markstrom for the expansion draft.
Just have to be patient ...cheer for the kids to produce hope and if they lose it's ok ...I make fun of Benning but he seems to have the ability to draft so every year more help will be coming

Young D doesn't usually produce wins now ...but once they mature and once the guys who will be part of the long term solution emerge it will change
In 4 years time probably only half of the D starting right now will be Canucks so you can't look at loses now and complain ...they are learning

These are the kind of things that are alarming to me. Coming out publicly and saying stuff like that. Doubt Markstrom loved that comment but he really hasn't played well enough to the point where he has stolen the no 1 job.
I had hopes that Markstrom would turn into something other than why FLA let him go…it appears FLA was right but he is slightly better here than he was in FLA. But that ain't saying much.
Every single season since 2011 we have waited for our 'injured vets' to return to the lineup around Dec-Jan. It's getting ridiculous. It's clear that ownership wants one thing and coaching-mngt want another…who knows what Linden wants. I like the guy but it's clear there is a conflict of interest going on. 'A rebuild here would be unfair to the Sedins'? Give me a break. And saying stuff like that publicly again is just baffling.

Most fans are utterly desperate to know why management is doing certain things. Management tells them why they are doing it. People are then up in arms about it.

who cares if Linden said they may consider resigning Miller in the "summer? What should he say if asked? He has no interest? No comment? It's baffling to me that this comment is being spoken about. If Markstrom doesn't earn the No 1 job it's not a bad idea to consider resigning him for one season until Demko is ready.

It's gotten so rediclous in this market...Linden should just tell them to (frank) off and not share any information with the fans for the rest of the year or give some classic hockey answers. Play harder in all 3 zones...more urgency etc etc

Problem is if JB or TL doesn't give the media something they make up some ridiculous bullpoop. Then it is worse for them. I agree that they need to just stop talking and tell the media and the fans that they are out to win every hockey game until the end of the season. They will make moves that will benefit the franchise in the end and not to worry because they are working toward making a contending team for a long period of time.

I'm not complaining. I'm just stating that people think youth is the be all end all to win hockey games in the NHL right now and it's not. A good mix of Vets, role players, Stars and youth is the way to go. The D is really young right now. It is good for the future. Just not good for a team that is still trying to win hockey games.

Goal, Defence = No Problema. That in itself is a huge win for this team.

Just need some scoring. Boeser should help that. I'm hopefully that JB and his finding of College free agents that they get someone like Vesey or Cagguila to add with Boeser.
