No way you can trade Stepan without a center coming back. Would kill this team - mdw7413
the Rangers have sufficient cap space to add a significant player without trading salary back
They are gonna trade a prospect or two plus picks and then hopefully sign the top college free agent again this summer |

Defensively they are probably the same. Outside of this year so far I would say Stepan is better offensively |

yup, would be a very tough trade to make
Id rather move a high pick for some help on D
wonder what kinda pick it would take to get Michael Stone out Arizona - mrn22
Right now? A third or 4th plus AHLer.
At the trade deadline...at least a 2nd rounder.
He on a one year deal and wishes to stay in Arizona. He'll probably go back once FA begins.

Many NHL GMs will attend the WJCs in Toronto and Montreal, starting on Boxing Day (12/26). Expect some trades as the tournament moves along. |

Wild can't take on any salary.
Never mind the fact I think Stepan is better than Coyle. |

The guy I would want from the Wild is Jared Spurgeon, but can't see why they would trade him.
All of these guys that would be top pair right side defensemen would cost a real good player -- Miller, Zucc, Kreider, Buchnevich, Vesey, etc.

Yup, plus the Wild are on a bit of a roll. Doubt they are trying to trade anyone significant at this time. |

I was poking around, and it's hard to find that many teams that are real strong on the right side. Right handed defensemen are just hard to come by, and for that reason, it's a position of high importance.
The reason I mentioned Myer earlier is because Winnipeg has some depth there, and they could solve a long standing problem of Trouba not being happy with the log jam there (not that he should be reward for his female doging).

Just another point, it's a bit of common thing to say that there are no excuses for performing poorly while a team is banged up. So, I won't make any excuses, but rather say that the Rangers records hasn't been so bad over the last few weeks, for much of which they have been missing an entire 1st line of hockey players.
My point, I don't think the Rangers can be properly evaluated right now. They are not even close to whole.

Has Myers really done anything since his rookie year in Buffalo though? Cant say I really followed him lately. I just remember after that spectacular rookie season he really fell off a cliff. |

He's been pretty good in Winnipeg. He's had a strange career arc. He started out strong, and as a result, was massively overrated. Then he dipped for a couple of years in a bad situation, and not he is starting to find his game again in those Mid-20s years where defensemen mature. I now think he is a little on the underrated side.
He's not an elite defender, but I think he can be a very good defender. But, he's certainly not a sure thing either.
