Carol Schram: Bo Horvat named to All-Star Team, Chris Tanev returns for Canucks vs. Preds
Bo Horvat earns his first All-Star Selection and the Vancouver Canucks look to get back on the winning track as they face the banged-up Nashville Predators on Tuesday in Music City. - Carol Schram
Thanks Carol. It's a fun town and crowd there. Been to many games in the past where Nucks came out with a win. Will be interesting again tonight with where both teams are at. |

I just went back and replied, but I'll post here because I appreciate the research you've done.
My comparison is not really based on much, its just that I know that in the case of Vey, Etem, etc. were our own draft picks and were getting settled in the NHL at the age of 22-23-24 the perception of how good/bad he is would be different.
I say that because I catch myself doing it on occasion. Expectations are much higher when you acquire a young player, but if for example Gaunce doesnt start putting up points until hes 24, he will be given the slack until then - WhiteLie
I agree, he does need to start putting up some point. I think I mostly took umbrage with the idea that he isn't effective at any role in the NHL.
He has been very effective at being a defensive player and has only really asked to do that yet. I know I'm a Gaunce booster and get some flack here for it ( Don ) but I've been impressed with his development.
Key word being development. He has continued to get better each year and that's all I can really ask of a prospect. |

I forgot about All star selections...which speaks volumes about where the roster we have had of late.
Great for Bo and well deserved imo. |

If he isnt going to the right places defensively in practice, how the hell do you think he is going to do it in an NHL game? Seriously man, have a little faith here that the Canucks are managing their players properly. How is Tryamkin doing? Did his constant practicing hurt his development? Or how about Horvat's deployment over the past 2.5 seasons? Did 4th line minutes and lack of PP time make him a worse player? - WhiteLie
I said if that's the case send Rodin to Comets to learn. They get games and practice time that he's not getting with Canucks. Tree was lucky to get in cause of injury and because of that game time was able to prove he can do it. Not sure what they do with Boucher. He played with Preds recently and scored a highlight real goal. So maybe thought they try him now. But his real former team NJ is coming up so maybe he gets worked in for that. But my thoughts are WD sees him only as injury insurance.
With Bo's development the talk is how much more can he do if given the deployment. But WD's answer is he's better fresher. Like that doesn't work for older and slower Hank and Sutter. Okay makes sense |

Absolutely, I had low expectations and hes made it to the NHL sooner than I thought he would.
I only singled him out because hes a prospect that has had minimal impact on the scoresheet so far, but we have had more productive young players be acquired that guys have wanted to cut or give away. Its just something I observed and cant understand why fans are so patient with our own underachieving prospects and so short with ones we acquire |

He doesn't look out of place on a 4th line. Nothing flashy, but doesn't appear to get beat often either.
He'll have to do a bit more to stand out to win the love of a Canucks fan though (hit, score, fight, draw penalties...something). |

we get bonners for our draft picks and have the penciled in on future year lineups and are prepared to give them a longer leash (like parents who think their kids can do no wrong).
Remember when we had CAssels penciled in for 4th line duty? |

I get that, but I think it has to do with the players acquired being sold as NHL ready opposed to as a player at a certain stage of their development.
People were tired with Jensen, Schroeder, Sauve etc as well even though they were drafted by this team.
Etem, Vey, Pedan etc were brought in and the hope was they were ready to contribute now.

Cant send him down without waivers and cant just continually send him for a conditioning stints, there has to be reason for it.
I dont think Tree was lucky to get in, he was working his way into what the staff expected from him. He has improved a lot as his conditioning has improved, more steady
Bo's use has been criticized since day 1 when he was paired up with Dorsett and given 10 minutes/night with no PP time. My point of Bo was that 3 years under WD he has become a really good young player who is responsible at all ends of the rink and ready to do more. If WD thinks Rodin needs more time, or shouldnt play much, I think the track record of holding guys out that werent ready earns him that grace |
