Asked if he is considering moving Gudrandson since Tryamkins emergence , he replied" No . I want toughness on all three lines. We struggled when Tanev and Edler were out of the line up. I like Tryamkin Gudbrandson and Sbisa for their toughness. Stecher has had a real good year. "

I think Tanev is the likely candidate. His value is probably as high as it will ever be.
JB could hit a homerun on a Tanev deal, or fast track his way to the unemployment line if he screws it up. |

That's true. I think we would have seen Pedan get a few games in, but they wanted to get Biega enough games to qualify him for the expansion draft as well. It's been a juggling act all year. Luckily since Biega will qualify, it opens the possibility of trading Sbisa.
I do think they should have taken advantage of Pedan's waiver exempt period by splitting press-box duty between him and Subban over the last month or so, instead of just letting Pedan sit on his hands until the window closed.
I'm still thrilled with the sudden depth, at the most marketable position, that JB has been able to put together. This is probably JB's first real chance to make trades from a position of strength. - Vanoxy
I think we could see a trade involving Sbisa but I wouldn't be surprised if we saw Biega moved instead once he hits the mark. There may be a team or two out there who simply need someone on defense with enough games to expose |

He's Vegas exempt any deal prior to expansion draft doesn't help with exposure loss. |

Tyutin, Fedor 33 D $2,000,000 UFA (2017) ✔
Gelinas, Eric 25 D $1,575,000 RFA (2017) 10GR
Zadorov, Nikita 21 D $894,167 RFA (2017) ✔
Wiercioch, Patrick 26 D $800,000 RFA (2017) ✔
Goloubef, Cody 27 D $750,000 UFA (2017) 14GR
You are right. They would have to sign someone checked above for 2018 contract. They have two NMC plus Barrie taking up protected space on D. So if they take an exposed D in trade now they would lose them. |

It's part of the reality of why trades may or may not happen by TDL. It effects everything hockey wise until expansion draft.
Example. Why a team who needs Tanev but can't protect him won't give uo much to get him. Where a player like Sbisa becomes more affordable on short risk. |

Of course. But what are you saying? Benning shouldn't consider a trade unless the player is not exempt? We were discussing hockey trades. Not trades in preparation of the expansion draft |

HE could. But then his net result could be two D down on depth. To address that he'd have to make another move just to recover some value. But it doesn't take away risk of being 2 top 5 D less. Exempt D like Hutton that are playing now have special value. |

Sorry, but it's very grim We have 4 forward prospects with a shot. Virt, Boeser, Gaudette and Lockwood. You need a lot more than that!! - CanuckDon
I think differently. You already have a young lineup Bo Sven Granlund Sutter .
You have a vets like Eriksson Hansen Burrows and the two old guys. That is your top nine.
Next year Burrows is gone and in comes Boeser. The following year you lose the twins and Hansen. but you have 16.7 in cap space to help find replacements.
That is where the one or two trades come in to replace to top 6.
I know in here we see things differently but Benning said today " Our team is now young enough and we like what we have , we will keep our picks now going forward and draft and develop" |

Perhaps we trade a waiver exempt D for a waiver exempt forward. You can't think of trades one dimensionally. |

My point isn't that we are in terrible shape. My point is our young D core is stronger than our young forward core. Forward is a greater weakness heading into the next couple of drafts
