I agree its to help teams, regardless of how well they are managed. Parity is important to the league and should be important to fans too IMO
That being said, with the growing annual push for tanking from all bad teams, I would be in favour of implementing one of the anti-playoffs theories that were floating around a few years back. Either points accumulated after playoff elimination to determine draft or lottery order, or a mini tournament of teams not in the playoffs to determine draft or lottery order.
I think currently the incentive is to bottom out if you are bad, whereas these other theories push bad teams to strive for mediocrity before they get rewarded. Plus as fans you can have meaningful games near the end of the year - WhiteLie
I like the spirit of the idea. Can you elaborate on how it can work? Does it take into account schedule and broadcast issues too? Like have a week or less break before playoff marathon begins for mini tournament for draft by non-playoff teams? |

I think we have officially hit rock bottom. Todays biggest topics are Megna Boucher and if we trade Burrows and Hansen.
We can't even get the part of a tear down right . How hard is that and how can a team screw that up so badly
I am not angry I am just laughing at how far we have sank.
Bobby Mac doesn't think Nolan Patrick is a number one center and maybe not even a number two.
Speculation on the radio today that Benning may be scouting that Swedish Dman as our top pick.
I agree the best thing is losing right now . Grab a top 5 pick and try and trade for another pick - VANTEL
I think by the end of this road trip for sure. Hopefully the big 4 (ownership, mngt, coaching and even players) get on board with what is happening. That this is not a PO team at all and we may not get over 75 pts again this year.
My god WD must be pulling what is left of his teeth out trying to make the PO's with half of the team belonging in the AHL. Don't see an extension happening for the coach now with who seems to be available.
I'm actually ok with another dman...building from the backend out is where we need to be.

The upcoming draft is nothng spectacular.
Picks r not as valuable as some may think.
The horrible teams will value picks most include us in that too lol
That said maybe more picks r traded and 1sts r less sacred.
Much hinges on the bubble teams & cup contenders deciding soon.
Its pretty wide open on who will or can win the cup this season.
Hockey trades r what r becoming more n more rare.
A flat cap will be most interesting on how some teams get out from under.
TBL to name one team has no choice but make big changes.
UFA's will get squeezed harder & its about time too.
RFA's also have less bargaining room.

As for picking D i'm down for that if BPA.
One more indicator we need to move at least 1 D for draft versatility purposes. |

That's not what Bmac said at all.
Even so, Nolan would instantly be this team 2nd best center after Hank. Yes, likely better then Bo.

I'd like another D or Center, in JB we trust in terms of the pick really.
#top5pick
I wish Dorsett was healthy so they could try to trade him and his brutal contract for a bag of pucks.

Who is bombing on purpose this year? - belcherbd
No one started to like the Leafs did last season. Yes Nucks projected as dead last by wide margin said screw that and tried to compete. But we will see after the TDL who does. Only factor is that Avs and Yotes have such a huge lead in stinkage. Plus Vegas gets third spot behind them. |

Edm won McDavid because of blind ass luck. It happens and could still happen to any team and I don't have an issue with that. The whole point of the draft is to allow bad team the players to improve, I don't see how limiting teams from getting multiple picks is fair....it's just sour grapes. - belcherbd
eliminate the opportunity for a team to be lucky then, I don't really care.
Teams can succeed without high draft picks. Chicago/Pitt/Washington all seem to be good without drafting in the top 10 year after year. You are rewarding bad management skills by allowing poopty teams to enter the draw year after year and be able to win 1oa. You are in turn rewarding poor decision making (or smart if the team blatantly decides to tank) by even allowing teams at a chance at 1OA. I am not saying bad teams don't deserve a chance at getting better through high draft picks, just limit how many times you can win 1OA over a span of X amount of years after winning it. |

The video of Liljgren the last few games, including on this link, the kid can really skate and dangle as good as any D I've seen in the last long while. Would not hate that pick. Hirshier is hard not to like with that speed and hands, I think I'd go him over Patrick even though he's higher risk |

the guy has no finish. I don't think anyone else stands out on the team to me as much as LE for having prime scoring chances, but either missing the net or getting absolutely robbed by the tendy. |

Fair enough, I just disagree I guess. I was pissed at Edm getting McDavid but don't think the system is broken. I also hope that Van has the opportunity to pick 1st overall more than once if they end being crappy for the next 5 years or whatever. |

It's easier to focus when there's literally the shot on the ice. Ya he's getting robbed, but if I'm the goalie I'm cheating towards him. Splitting the Sedins up isn't going to get more goals out of this lineup, at a certain point we have to just realize our forward group is a square were trying to mash through a circle hole. Doesn't matter how you twist the square, it ain't fitting! |

I think bottom teams need high draft picks in order to get on the right path to get better, of course. I legit HATE EDM for how many years they got 1OA and were still poopty. McDavid is amazing, its hard to hate him, but as a franchise, I dislike them more than anyone else, cause it was a poopshow for soo many years in a row of them drafting high/1OA and failing year after year. One could argue that even though they drafted 1 OA soo many times, they still aren't a powerhouse team that they should be, but again, it just goes to show how poor their drafting/management was.
I know this is a conversation that doesn't really matter is nothing will change, but if EDM wins 1OA, or TOR wins 1OA I will be pissed. |

Ya, they are my most hated team as well mostly for those reasons. I actually wouldn't be surprised if they slip out of the playoffs here......maybe I'll be changing my tune if they luck out with the draft again. |

I swear people love to argue for the sake of arguing. Forward it to the 4.35 mark to hear Bob talk about Patrick
http://www.tsn.ca/radio/v...-hansen-or-edler-1.668016
Listen to the interview . He specifically says Patrick is a number 2 , maybe a low end number 2 or even a three. I never heard him mention once in this interview that he would be ahead of Bo and Behind Hank
Anyone who follows this club can see Bo is our best |

1040 talking about Granlund helping the Sedins.
Its ass backwards IMO
Dank needs a demotion to stop dragging Hank down.
Remake the 1st line instead of experiments.
Hank needs a fresh restart. |

I think the new system will work to deter deliberate tanking, but as you know in these threads the call for the Sedins to leave so the team can finally drop from mediocre and properly rebuild with a top 3 pick. Thats what I meant by the current system still provides incentive to bottom out
I think those other systems would prevent the "start from scratch" mentality and actually give us fans something to care about all season. I hate the idea of the Canucks not trying to win every night or avoiding good UFA's because they need to lose games to get those needed higher picks to be successful. Sadly I have come to accept the fact that the next couple seasons will be poor quality hockey because it will better serve them long term - WhiteLie
