They paint ice?? I just figured it was a big white board underneath with all of the logos/lines and such painted on it. - stashu
Can't tell if serious lol
On rinks that are in a permanent fixture like the ice at the arena there is gray concrete (or whatever its called) floor under the ice.
Under that is about a mile or so of copper piping that the cooling chemicals go through. I think the rink at the arena is an ammonia based system, there are a few different types.
Once the boards are in place they turn the system on to chill the concrete floor so the water when initially sprayed on starts freezing almost instantly for the base layer.
They build the ice up to about 3/4th of an inch to an inch and then paint it white. Then another thin layer of ice then they paint the lines, face off circles, creases and logos. Some of the logos are a vinyl decal. Then another thin layer of ice and boom you have a hockey rink. |

Completely serious. I just figured it was all that base stuff and before the first layer of ice you mention they have sectioned off white pieces that go down as the "blank" ice and that is what they'd paint on for everything, then lay ice over top that (some sort of layer to protect all of that would be needed too obviously).
Never in a million years would I have figured they paint actual ice. |

I was sort of with you, growing up all the natural ice rinks and minor hockey rinks were painted lines etc but you would assume at the pro level it was a more efficient process than that.
Its not just normal paint either, its a very special paint, its a powder that you have to mix, if you dont get the consistency right it chips away easily, stains your hands like crazy when making it. It stinks |

Was just laughing at your first post to Coga, then scroll to see you reply to mine. :D
I don't remember what I paid for it, but I had that way before Minecraft. Minecraft is the best $26 I've ever spent...soooooooo many hours put into that game!! I haven't played Terraria in a very long time (Steam says 6/1/2011) |

I just always imagined large glossy whiteboard sort of flooring that they paint on and put ice over. |

Pretty sure I'd have a bit more insight as to how it's made had I seen that and see the painting all get smashed up.
Sounds pretty awesome though. |

Oh, you have to go back and start and expert large world. The game is so different from 2011. Hardmode and expert mode didn't exist, along with thousands of items. Hardmode more than doubled the bosses, expert mode changes the difficult and the loot drops. And then there is the mighty moonlord at the end. |

From Ek's post:
On Evander Kane...
Kane has been scouted by many teams this year and there is an obvious reluctance...A few sources of mine had tied him to Montreal, but one main source told me Therrien would never allow it...However, there may be another look now that Julien is at the helm...
Would we be able to pry out Galchenyuk for Kane & Gio?
Would that even be worth it? - thatsapickle
you're out of your mind if you think MTL will trade Galchenyuk, plus, he's been injured a ton this season.
I'll take one Pacioretty though. Another guy I doubt they'd trade. They love their American captains.

That's how it's done everywhere.
Turn the compressors off at 10 pm the night before and at 6 am the next morning start breaking ice.
The worst part as a ref is right after the ice is freshly painted you end up with a white residue on your black pants...
After about a week the ice stops bleeding white LOL |

we have all the technology in the world, but still its a simple process of making ice, painting lines, and smashing it to pieces haha |
