But us losing would help us with our roster if we get in the top two or win the lottery we could potentially trade that for a defenseman or we could draft a player and use Sam Reinhart as trade bait - GERBE!!!75PTS
Trading Sam Reinhart for a d-man is a panic move without a doubt. Im was never big on Reinhart but i think we need to continue to build around him. My ideal plan this offseason would be to trade for an expansion player like Vatanen, Try to sign Alzner and also go after a vet Either Campbell or Dailey on a 1 year deal. My 3 realistic targets at the draft would be as follows:
Owen Tippett
Eeli Tolvanen
Jusso Valimaki |

He looked good during that emergency call up in the middle of the year. I hope that isn't too much pressure as well, but I agree somehow Gorgio, Kuli and Frans need to be gone and replaced if we want a legitimate chance next season. - RhinoFan
I think kuli and Franson will both be gone next season...that leaves:
risto, McCabe, bogo, gorges and falk under contract for next season
add in guhle, that's six |

Its only a panic move if you trade him for like 50% of his value. If they move him to get a legitimate top 2 guy its just a good hockey trade. |

What is his value?
Take the Ryan Johanson/Seth Jones trade for example:
Ryan Johanson was 70 point center and that netted a top 2 d-man
Sam Reinhart is a 40 point right winger. Does that net you a similar return? Doubt it |

he's may hit 20 goals for the second consecutive season and is on pace for 50 points...
johansen struggled his first tow seasons in Columbus then broke out |

ok but does that change that fact that at the time of the trade Johanson already put up a 70 point season as a center?
my point is Sam Reinhart does not have the same trade value as Johanson did to net a top 2 defenseman. Sure he may eventually but as of right now hes a 40-50 point right winger |

he had 6 goals when nashville got him. young high drafted centres (i know hes playing wing now) always have pretty good value.
At worst, you're likely to start dialogue around a defencemen who's got similar numbers relative to defensemen. At the very least worth exploring. |

point taken...
still not sure why there's a thought of trading him |

Yea..sure just ignore the fact that that was an injury shortened season and that he scored 71 points the previous season.
Listen im not saying Sam Reinhart doesnt have a lot of value. He definitely does. but will he net you a top pairing d-man? I dont know. And frankly I dont see many teams willing to trade one of those right now. the Seth Jones type trades are pretty rare. |

2015-16 Columbus Blue Jackets NHL 38 6 20 26 25 -4
2015-16 Nashville Predators NHL 42 8 26 34 36 10
I dont know either. just saying that its worth exploring |

I really dont think Murray would. I think Moving Kane in a package for that coveted D-man is much more likely |

I get it, but you're still creating a hole in the top-six, just like with moving kane...
i also get the need for a top-four, maybe top-two d-man, but i'm of the opinion that i'd like to see them hold off, especially if they get a new coach...
for me there are a lot of factors in the demise of the defense with the forwards and bylsma's system sharing the blame |

Is that enough though? I see two solid defenders, a rookie with some promise, an AHL/NHL tweener that looks like a solid 6-7 and two fairly washed up vets who don't have much left to offer. I can't imagine Bogo and Gorges being paired so are we okay with one of them in our top4...will that be enough? |

Does trading a top 6 forward make us better though? We're like 23rd in the league in scoring - do we want to drop further? |

Let's say, we don't really move anymore in the standings and pick 10th. Would you consider taking a stab at Liljegren? His stock as fallen, but it seems due to injury more than anything else. I think we could put another stud D-man in the bank if he falls to us. |

if i could keep kane at 4 yrs./$6.25 million a season, that would be ideal |

Right my mistake. Was not an injury shortened season. But i think you understand my point now. He was a well know commodity at the time he was traded and an established center on top of it. Sam Reinhart is not that at this point |

as mentioned to someone else, i'd like to let it play out without making any rash moves...i think the forwards and Bylsma have a lot to do with the demise of the defense...
add in injuries this year as well |

Well, I don't go around showing disrespect. But there's a difference between respect and courtesy. I am polite and courteous to people I don't know. But respect is earned. I don't show respect right off the bat because then people try to walk all over you or they reveal themselves to be dubious and not deserving of respect.

If you believe in nylander, bailey and whoever they pick this year, not really.
I dont like bylsma, but i dont buy this either. He's an nhl coach with an nhl system. And hes asking players with AHL level IQ's to execute this system.
Its hard to teach AP calculus to a bunch of idiots. |
