i dont agree with this at all. its not like we can say andersen is facing far fewer high quality shots or something. Their D is there weakness, yet most of their fans/media would agree that hes been one of if not the mvp of this season. Ahead of Matthews. - Sabresfan-365
I've seen a few Leafs games, not as many as Sabres games, but I don't see half the stupid goals/chances that this Sabres team allows because of defensive breakdowns. |

Except it is. Show me 2 goalies. One lets in a higher percentage of the shots against him on a good team, and the other on a "pathetic" team saves a higher percentage. My point is some people are so anti-Murray that they can't even give credit to a good player regardless of what the price was. Separate them for a second. - Wetbandit1
He does? Andersen has faced more high danger shots and saved more than lehner at fewer attempts and fewer saves. |

They spend more time in the o-zone, thats why. But in their own end theyve got some serious issues.
The value of the lehner trade is irrelevant to me in this debate. I just think andersen is better. |

have no idea what happened there, and I wont say hes guilty of innocent 1 way or another bc his GFs lawyer apparently was a scum bag exploiting her. But when you are getting sued for emotional damages and the jury rules in your favour for the plaintiff to pay you instead. Kind of a good sign he probably was more in the right than in the wrong. - DDM-Coga
Yeah, that's why I edited it to illegal. It was just a mess of a thing to start with, and it had to have been a huge relief to a) have it be over, and b) be somewhat vindicated. |

And Murray said as much. That he was young, had term, and was still an RFA after. But nope, Murray is a rube who got raked over the coals... - Wetbandit1
Its not a bad gamble bc what sabres did in Lehner is no different what the Avs did when they traded for a 22-23 year old Varly trade.
He has been in the org for 6 years now and isnt out of his 20s. Long term investment for a 1st round pick.
Cam talbot was traded that year as a UFA 28 year old who hasn't started before.
Martin Jones was a 25-26 year traded for a 1st rounder. Really its the price of doing business to get that early to mid 20 starting potential goalie |

What do you mean? Andersen stops more shots that good goalies stop. Lehner stops more shots the average goalie stops.

for a time there i think schneider was worth that pick. Problem was they put the cart before the horse.
virtually no talent in front of him so it didnt really matter. - Sabresfan-365
Right but that's kind of my point.
They would possibly have been better off with that 1st (Bo Horvat) and finishing low enough to possibly land McDavid, Eichel, Marner, Strome, etc... over the next few years since they would have been even worse without Schneider.
They actually completely (frank)ED their team over in acquiring Schneider, which is funny because so did Vancouver in trading him away. They were poised to make another run or two but now they're in limbo with an old team, a well past his prime Ryan Miller and not much down the pipeline while wasting a few years in between. |

I'm not saying they don't, but they also don't allow the Komorov chance that we've seen far too often this year with the Sabres that no goalie could possibly save. Again, I've seen maybe 10 games, and I do watch highlight packages where they show big saves, and I don't think they'd omit save of the year candidates for a "routine" 2 on 1 "shot"(as in there's no pass), save. |

And yet they still have the same GAA. That's what matters, the bottom line, not high danger saves on a Tuesday, while it's raining, when Lehner sacrifices a goat to Odin before the game. That's the problem with stats, you get too far down in the weeds to see the big picture. |

They allow great chances all the time what are you talking about? Eichel had a breakaway goal because the Leafs fell asleep with a minute left |

Yeah, and it was also a great play by Sam to get him the puck too. Plus 30 seconds to go in a decided game is a bit different than 3 minutes into a 0-0 game. |
