How different do you think this season would have been if Eichel played the whole year?

Or if the other major injuries didn't happen?

What if the injuries happened to Toronto, would they be in the same boat?

Not that I am trying to justify this season, but that could be a huge component to it.

If auston matthews was injured for 21 games the leafs would be on the outside looking in right now.

I think we can all agree that goalies are pretty easy to find, it's the reason that no one likes that a first rounder was given up for Lehner. I hope they sign Petersen, but it certainly isn't the end of the world if they don't

I disagree. We have no way of knowing if he'll be better than Lehner?? I'm sure GMTM we'll do all that he can do to sign him, but it's not up to him, it's up to Cal. Does a kid from Iowa dream of playing for Chicago?

As I said before, I'd offer him a max contract today, let him play Sunday and burn a year of his ELC. I would also give him a leave of absence next year from Rochester if he wanted to play in the USA Olympic program. This is our best shot at getting him. We'll find out soon enough.

If (emphasis on "if") Petersen is as good as everyone says he is, and doesn't sign here, it's because folks in his camp are telling him that there are better options out there than the Buffalo Sabres, which doesn't bode well for the franchise's reputation. Ted Black originally said that Terry Pegula's goal was to make Buffalo a destination in this league. And yet, despite having one of the league's top young stars, it really isn't anywhere close. That's why it's important that they lock up Cal Petersen.

I started reading the comics online this week.

For college FA's specifically, reputation is almost irrelevant. Penguins convinced aston reese to sign with them and will watch one of their own picks leave and test free agency. For these players its almost always about opportunity and/or where they're most comfortable.

One of the most sought after UFA's in the last decade signed with a last place team based in edmonton. I cant imagine he did that because he's a big fan of west edmonton mall or daryl katz
