If (emphasis on "if") Petersen is as good as everyone says he is, and doesn't sign here, it's because folks in his camp are telling him that there are better options out there than the Buffalo Sabres, which doesn't bode well for the franchise's reputation. Ted Black originally said that Terry Pegula's goal was to make Buffalo a destination in this league. And yet, despite having one of the league's top young stars, it really isn't anywhere close. That's why it's important that they lock up Cal Petersen.

Other than O'Reilly, who first and foremost wanted a team to break the bank for him, and the Sabres were the only ones willing to do so, none of those signings are groundbreaking, including Okposo, who I still say they unnecessarily overpaid for (I hate saying it given the situation he's in, but I held this stance for quite a while).

1. Hard to say, their record matters less to me than how they develop talent.

You cant say that for sure. If he became a UFA he would have likely gotta a large payday regardless if it was the sabres or not.

And it doesn't matter if they were ground breaking in your opinion. All these players could have went elsewhere or not signed with us.

My original point was that a college player choosing to test FA doesnt speak to our reputation.
