Greiss - the savior of last year's playoffs - made the most of his situation and didn't complain about it. Why only Jaro? - bgainesDM
DM, I don't know how you can possibly defend Snow on the 3 goalie circus lasting 2 years? Every single article written about the issue was negative and blamed Garf Bag for mismanaging the situation. Hey even the biggest Garth D1ck suckers out there like Staple and Erni of IPB criticized his handling of the situation. Chris Botta wrote that if Garth was one of the goalies involved in the Islanders 3 goalie situation in his playing days he would have been the biggest complainer ever
You need to stop, you can defend him and have your opinion on a lot of moves he's made or didn't make but your pissing into the wind with this argument. |

I get the tenor of the blog. But this team missing the playoffs was a collective fail. That doesn't mean I don't agree with the sentiment that Snow needs to be shown the door.
This team missed the playoffs because of the first three months of the season. The players absolutely sucked in the first three months, outside of one or two guys. JT wasn't himself. Ladd and Chimera were invisible. Strome was invisible. Nelson was nowhere to be found. Lee took a while to heat up. Greiss and Halak were both mediocre in the first half.
The coaching staff shares in this as well. Most notably Cappy, who rightly paid with his job. But he wasn't alone. For all the accolades that Weight gets for the job he did as "interim coach", he has presided over one of the sh**tiest power plays in recent memory. That was supposed to be his specialty and the PP once again sucked this year. Cronin and Cappy had absolutely no defensive system in place and the PK sucked as well.
As Is aid above, I'm on board with removing Snow. Its time. But in his defense, as this team showed in the second half, the talent was on this roster to make the playoffs. They should have made the playoffs, in spite of Snow's refusal to make changes or fix things as they went awry until it was too late. This miss falls on a lot of sets of shoulders.
With Lombardi being let go in LA, if I was Malkin and Ledecky, I'd be on the phone with him already. He did lots of good work in LA. He got there and the Kings sucked A few years later, they have two cups. All during the same amount of time that Snow has had to build something here. But if what is being written on Twitter about Snow's gift from Wang contract extension, I don't know if the owners are going to be willing to move on from Snow. |

Jaro deserves some of the blame for sure but the reality is he was right. There is a reason NOBODY in the nhl carries 3 goalies. Snow got his feeling hurt and like with Nino once you call out that shat bag for being clueless he gets rid of you. The only reason Halak got called up was because he had no choice and had to call him up. Once again Snow put his personal grudges above what's best for the franchise. There is no debating that no matter how much you want to for some reason. Its right there in front of you not once but twice he has done it. GTFO now Snow you're done - Vukota
I think Weight had a lot to do with this, imho. |

Comparing the games he started last year to this year. That's all I did. Again, THAT'S ALL I DID. He made the most of his situation last year, but didn't this year. - bgainesDM
Again the bottom line is you didn't have the best 2 goalies on your roster for 2 1/2 months because of a grudge. End of story |

Who cares if he has 5 years left on the deal. It was given by wang which means its probably 200,000 a year Peanuts for owners who just spent 400 million on the team. Fire his arse!! - Vukota
I can't believe that Wang would f**king do that, give Snow a contract extension-golden parachute. What a way to f**k the incoming owners: saddle them with a horrendous contract for an executive. But then again, its Wang so I shouldn't be surprised.
Its amazing: Dean Lombardi gets fired for his team missing the playoffs after bringing two cups to an organization that was losing when he took over. Snow gets a contract extension for making the playoffs 4 out of 11 years and bowing out in the first round in three of those four playoffs. |

I dont even know your point at this point. Honestly i dont.
If you have a third goalie, and he's "insurance" if he doesnt play, and is taking practice time away from a goalie who will be playing, thats not insurance. You're better off trading for a back up if need be, if Halak got hurt. - kindlyrick
He was insurance for Halak's inconsistency to stay healthy and to ultimately backup Greiss whenever Halak DID get hurt.
Berube didn't get full practice time - neither did Greiss btw, until either Halak got hurt(in 2015-16) or sent down (2016-17). Berube got his chances last season and only hiccuped 1 game. This year, he hiccuped EVERY game. At the time though, the market for a backup goalie was very dry, though I really wanted the Isles to shoot for Budaj this trade deadline as Greiss' backup. I was a little mad about that. |

So you put him on waivers and send him down. If he clears that's your insurance. He gets claimed you trade for a backup. There are a million of Berube's out there. Enough already with this nonsense |

As Staple mentioned in his article, Lombardi already has ties to Ledecky and Malkin. Additionally, he's a Massachusetts guy so I don't think it would be pulling teeth to get him to come back to the east coast.
If Ledecky and Malkin are actually seriously considering getting rid of Snow, one way or another, then I am positive they were on the phone with Dean first thing this morning. I can't imagine Dean hates the idea of coming to a team with a marquis player like Tavares.
I strongly believe that, while there are problems that must be addressed, the Islanders can be turned around in a single season with a competent GM at the helm. |

I agree with a lot of this Jethro and especially Lombardi, but I do not remember Greiss being mediocre in the 1st half. He kept the team above water. I blame Garth squarely for the Isles failure. All the talent was not on the team as Halak was called up too late and Pulock was not even called up. |

The Isles aren't the only team that misses on picks.
2010 - Brett Connolly 6th
2011 - Jonas Brodin 10th
2012 - Ryan Murray 2nd
2013 - Samuel Morin 11th
2014 - Haydn Fleury 7th
2015 - Timo Meier
I didn't look at 2016 as it's still too soon. There are many other players in those drafts taken in the first round that haven't even sniffed the NHL. I'm not defending Snow, but he hasn't been a complete disaster drafting. The development of the picks is where this team is severely lacking. - Isleshockeyman
By the way, Snow's picks in those seasons above: Nino in '10; Strome in '11, Reinhart in '12. Snow didn't exactly hit it out of the park with his picks either. |

He probably will get fired and should be fired but mainly for his loyalty towards the coaching staff. Is it so wrong to have middle ground here though? |

I think Lombardi turned down Wang before the committee was hired if reports are true? I have to think he would accept this time and especially if he can run the team. Lombardi should be the guy to make this team a winner. He's got good pieces to work with. |

Greiss statistically fell off from the previous season, if I recall the statistics correctly. He wasn't bad, but he certainly wasn't at the level he was last spring.
I can't just place this dumpster fire of a season on Snow's shoulders alone. I'm sorry, but Snow wasn't out there skating and blowing leads and losing points every night. Snow wasn't on the bench coaching an inept power play and ineffective penalty kill. The players and coaching staff as a whole fell way short this season. as did Snow.

I refuse to believe that the Islanders couldn't have signed or acquired some sort of goalie that was better-or-equal-to Berube, in the event one of Greiss or Halak was injured long term. |

For all their faults and issues, they really aren't that far away from being a much better team. Legitimate contender? Not so much, but there is no reason they can't be a perennial playoff team and probably a non-wildcard team at that. |
