I refuse to believe that the Islanders couldn't have signed or acquired some sort of goalie that was better-or-equal-to Berube, in the event one of Greiss or Halak was injured long term.

Like I said, this season I wanted Budaj.

Greiss statistically fell off from the previous season, if I recall the statistics correctly. He wasn't bad, but he certainly wasn't at the level he was last spring.

I can't just place this dumpster fire of a season on Snow's shoulders alone. I'm sorry, but Snow wasn't out there skating and blowing leads and losing points every night. Snow wasn't on the bench coaching an inept power play and ineffective penalty kill. The players and coaching staff as a whole fell way short this season. as did Snow.

- Jethro09

He was not playoff Greiss, but I remember he was good to start the season and should have gotten more starts over Halak. It sounds like Garth had his hands all over the lineup decisions. I'm putting most of the blame on Garth. The staff and players have blame as well just Garth gets the most IMO.

Any you don't think they knew about it? If it was an insane contract you bet your arse they would have said something. These guys aren't stupid.
- Vukota

Maybe L&M were aware of the deal, but that doesn't mean that giving Snow a multi-year contract extension based on his body of work wasn't insane. Its ludicrous. The guy has four playoff appearances in 11 years. Exactly one playoff series win in 11 seasons. His drafts have been mediocre at best. That contract was terrible business, even with L&M being aware of it when they bought the team.

Yeah, but he was complicit in leaving those things to flounder the way they were. He just sat on his hands while things were clearly terrible and didn't do anything about it until it was too late.

Not blaming Snow for the abject failure of the people who work directly under him is like blaming the iceberg for sinking the Titanic.

I think Lombardi turned down Wang before the committee was hired if reports are true? I have to think he would accept this time and especially if he can run the team. Lombardi should be the guy to make this team a winner. He's got good pieces to work with.
- ses111

The call should go something like this.

Hello Mr Lombardi, sorry to hear about your situation in LA with the Kings, however I think its given you an opportunity to come back to the east coast, take absolute control of the Hockey operations in Long Island and build another Stanley Cup winner.
You will have complete uninterrupted control and all the financial backing you need. Come here Sir and bring us that Cup! PLEASE!

For all their faults and issues, they really aren't that far away from being a much better team. Legitimate contender? Not so much, but there is no reason they can't be a perennial playoff team and probably a non-wildcard team at that.
- eichiefs9

I think under a guy like Lombardi, this team could be a contender. Under Snow they'll be nothing more than an 7th or 8th seed.

Nobody was saying the contract wasn't stupid or insane. My point was the new owners knew about it when they took full control and it won't factor into whether they keep him or not

How can you not? Those players are his picks......they're his roster. The coaching staff were his choices. It all goes back to him. How can you NOT put the onus on the captain of the ship.

They need barzal to be legit and another player like a tj or MD. Also pulock up and possibly toews soon. Those 4 moves could put them up there along with a system that actually requires d

I don't see them ever being considered a real threat until there is a stable goaltending situation.

Sorokin and Soderstrom may be the long-term solutions, but right now we are lacking in that department.

I don't see Greiss being able to carry a significant portion of starts like the real top-tier guys in the NHL do. They need to either find a way to get a high-end goalie (nearly impossible, although they may be able to get Bishop on-board with a short-term deal if Lombardi has a good relationship with him) or they need to basically invest in another Greiss. A 2A/1B guy that can play every two games or so and give you a chance to win most nights.

Great vision. Nice speed. Nice patience. Nice distribution. I think he'll make the team next year in a surprise good camp. Probably be CDH's replacement.

Sounds like Garth was doing a lot of the coaching even the lineup decisions. His hands are all over this failure.

Halak groups combo for one more year would work great maybe a 60 40 workload

I agree with you guys but to take that next step you need balls and know how and Snow is not that guy, not by a long shot.

Funny, when teams need goalies they go out and find one. Devils with Schnieder, Florida with Luongo, even the Oil with Talbot. Im certain a real GM can get this done.

I still hope a good coach with a good defensive system can help Greiss from breaking down. Maybe Greiss still is more of a 1B type? Sorokin and Soderstrome still seem far away. I'm fine having to use Halak and Greiss for a year.

I just don't see anyone out there that's available, outside of Bishop, that is really worth going out there and getting. Vegas has to take 3 goaltenders. DAL will be shedding goalies but they're both overpaid garbage.

But yes, Snow should have been all over Schneider at that draft.
