Ledecky taking a full year to observe pays off. Dean Lombardi available. Must be given complete hockey authority with Islanders.

Botta agrees

Hard not to agree. This is the moment for Ledecky. A proven name is available for Ledecky to hire.

Lombardi would bring the respect of players and agents and fellow GM's. Isles have not had that since the short time Neil Smith worked for them.

Your PoHO/GM has just been released for you benefit L and M, now go get him and take the first step to turning this organization into that upper echelon Franchise you told us all you would turn it into.
Action speak louder than words!

This is going to look and be so bad if Ledecky passes on this great chance.

Not being an ass KR, but I just want to know your reasons why?

He's stated numerous times he likes it here. My opinion, but when I read what he said, to me it basically said if they pay me what I want I'm in. It's always about the money.

Money is the last thing he's worried about. He knows he's going to get paid and the Isles know they'll have to pay him.

He needs to see where they are going and what the plan is. He said as much today.

“I think it’s a lot more complicated process than probably people realize,” he said. Then he referred to “a lot of situations that have kind of come over the last couple of years.”

Tavares admitted he will have questions for management, including getting “an understanding of their vision and where things are going.”

I would not let JT pick the new GM, but you can bet I would listen if he wanted Garth out. JT is not the type and will suffer in silence.
- ses111

JT is a great player but should not be deciding who our next GM is or whether we should keep our old one. If that's the case trade him. Jesus this thread has gone full bonzo

He also referred to the cap which could be an issue with spending $10 a year on him. It also effects getting him a true RW, which I'm sure is going to be asked. We all know he's gonna wanna know what the plan is for a new arena. I just don't think it's going to be a problem. These guys didn't just spend half a billy goat to not get the franchise player to sign.

I hope your right and of course the money is big but it's the easy thing in this negotiation. It's the fact he wants to win, the direction of the team, who's going to be the GM the coach, where are they going to play and on and on? These are all points that JT shouldn't even have questions about being on the team since being drafted. He should have these questions with the teams who he hasn't played for and that should be The Islanders advantage in this but quite honestly it isn't at all. The only advantage is they can sign him for 8 years.

Also JT publicly is saying exactly what he should say.
Let me add there were people on here a year or so ago that thought JT would take a hometown discount to stay here. I think that would be true if they were close to contending and had their poop together but at this point im not so sure. If he stays it's 8 years at 10 / 10.5 per to start imho.

Honestly man I think a guy like Lombardi turns this team into a contender in a year. They have the assets to become a cup team. It's been obvious for years that Snow cannot put the finishing touches on this painting. We all know this isn't the 2008 isles. I really don't see 91 saying publicly he wants to win here if he didn't mean it.

Th new contract wouldn't kick in until next year, which gives them time to clear space. Grabovski, Kuliman and Bailey, I believe, come off after this upcoming season.

Of course he means it, he wants to win and being here he wants to win here.
if a deal gets done and he stays, he will continue to say it. If he leaves he will say he wants to win here.

I agree, Lombard would bring instant credibility to this team and would be a step in the right direction that for sure

Agreed but I'm talking long term as it's about as obvious as obvious could get that Tavares need a RW and an elite player is gonna cost. Certainly possible, I just don't want the hoarder Snow making that decision.

If you're going to ask Tavares to waste the rest of his career, it's going to cost you huge $$$
