Touche. I just can't handle another rebuilding effort.

I guarantee that the Sabres will be looking North up the QEW for a few answers on how to proceed given what's gone on there over the past couple seasons.

You may hate me for saying it, but whatever, it's true.

If SJ goes down I'm toast.

I'm debating on switching out Jones for someone playing tonight (Marincin, Methot, Chara, Wideman?) or if I should hold off

this from Adam French, perfect IMO:

Adam French

I like this move, though the timing in terms of firing Murray seems odd. I guess this gives them enough time to come up with a strategy for the Expansion and Entry Drafts, but it'll be tight.

Dan Bylsma clearly has lost the room and the writing was on the wall with the Reinhart situation. Whether you thought it was a good idea, whether you thought it was necessary, whether you thought it was the dumbest thing imaginable, it was the most emblematic moment of a failed season.

Under Bylsma, no players other than Ristolainen and Eichel have made any noticeable development.

That's not to say that the injury/illness bug didn't hurt Buffalo with Eichel, Okposo and Kulikov being hit hardest. But the team simply didn't perform to the perceived depth that they had.

This is where I think Murray bit the dust, alongside probably falling on his sword beside Bylsma. The Sabres made bold moves during their "rebuild" by acquiring players entering their primes to help compete now at the expense of the majority of their "prospects." They did this due to the perceived depth of talent coming through the system.

While the trades are by no means heavy losses, the fact is that the Buffalo prospects that were to make the ones leaving easily expendable are not performing to expectations. The Rochester Americans were one of the worst AHL squads this year failing to make the playoffs yet again. The most worrying bit about it is the lack of defensive depth on that squad, which is one of the major issues on the actual Sabres as well. One has to realize that Murray was the GM for both the Sabres and Americans, so he has the double whammy of never having any of the teams he has run make the playoffs since he came in. Including the Americans falling from a bubble team in the AHL to one of the consistently worst in the league.

Some want to blame this on Jack Eichel, I'd rather blame it on a miscalculated rush in a rebuild that backfired.

While all this is accurate, I feel the "we really didn't give up anything special" narrative is just plain dumb.

We don't know how all those 2014,15,16 picks will turn out, and also don't know who we would have taken if we have them.

Fact is, it's entirely possible we gave up plenty of chances at good NHL'ers

Totally right. Plus, I'd expect there would have been defensemen drafted in at least a couple of these spots ... which may or may not mean that we have something in the d-man pipeline besides ONLY Guhle. That is an important fact that people overlook. I liked GMTM but this is one spot where he could have helped himself.

We get it, you think your rebuild is amazing and you want a compliment about it. There is a lot of misery here in regard to hockey right now. Nobody is biting, so go away.

If I didn't (frank) up my draft so royally I'd be in a really good spot. My later picks have paid off but if I hadn't went with Kane and Rask I'd be in a better spot.

I saw you and your buddy talking about Holtby so I thought goaltending was important. I should've just drafted a goalie late.

Freddy is the reason the series is 2-2 and not 3-1 or even done already. he had some bumps in the road during the season but has been all I could hope for in the playoffs.

"but Pegula just busted out a big-ass tube of Compound W."

Perhaps one of your finest lines ever Pach!

Pegula needs to look at how MLSE structured the Leafs and brought in real (outside) pros to help fix that organization. And then get out of the way.

Taking Matt Murray first overall I thought that was going to be easy points and the dude gets hurt 5 minutes before the game starts lol

You just need your sharks guys to get through they're heating up so that's a good thing

I loved Freddy in Anaheim. Was bummed out when he was traded to the Leafs. Would have liked the Sabres to go after him

Absolutely.

I mean, even though I like Nyalnder, you can't tell me we wouldn't feel better about this team with Sergachev or McAvoy in the pipeline

My 2 cents:

Murray did this to himself, "this will not be a long rebuild", yet no trades after the draft last year? (ok, an AHL player trade is not worth caring about)

Murray had a plan, was given every resource and came up empty. With the coach and players creating a toxic dressing room together, GM and coach needed to go.

Now the owner should know who the players the ex-coach and ex-GM wanted to get rid of and have a new GM take that trash out ASAP.

As much as the fans (I know I did) liked the info Murray used to say in the media, he should not be telling us certain things.

As Buffalo sports fans know well, let's get excited for next year!

I was planning on taking Fluery late, but that was before I knew you could only get one goalie. Then Murray gets injured and he starts raking in points for your brother lol

I think the price for both was about the same too.
