"With the 5th pick overall in the draft, the Vancouver Canucks select..."
Some dude who'll never measure up to the high expectations fans will have, nor be the savior the team needs. In fact, probably will demand a trade in 3 years or bolt to the KHL/SHL/some European hockey league to make more money/have more ice time/get away from the fickle fandom. |

Columbus - finished 27th - won third pick despite having only the fourth-best odds
and then proceeded to waste the pick on PL Dubois.
So the odds are 1 of 3 to pick either 5th, 4th or top 3. And the Karma tank virtually guarantees it will be 5th.
With Tree no longer on the scene, the better Liljegren or Makar start to look. Not sure that high a pick is worth Mittelstadt, Vilardi or Necas. Just take the BPA. |

Already looking forward to next year's Linden GIF. Maybe this time he rips up the Pat Quinn rookie card on live national TV. |

why are we labelling kids who don't play immediately after their draft year a waste/bust. How many kids actually make it out of junior without going to the AHL first. I think Dubois will be a good player, but on a team that was very offensive, I see no point in needing him to play when they have kinds like Milano waiting for a spot to open, no need to rush. |

You guys should trade down to 6th and draft Cal Foote.
If you can get a high 2nd for trading down; you can pick up Miro Heiskanen. He just had a fantastic u18 on a dominant Finnish team. Also a defense. 2nd in scoring at u18's.
http://www.eliteprospects.../player.php?player=250075
Get a good defense core to add to the OJ pick and worry about picking offensive forwards in the two drafts after this one.
That is unless you guys can actually land #1 or #2. Lol |

Zzzzzzzzzzzz...
Yo can we stop perpetuating the notion that this fanbase is somehow out of line for having standards? So sick of seeing/hearing/reading sh!t like this... Our fickleness is more than warranted, & isn't to blame every time we draft a bust or waste $ on the wrong UFA. |

Aren't we whiners if we aren't always happy with the team?
I'll go take my meds now. |

Can we agree that this fanbase tends to go overboard on every shiny new draft pick? Can we also agree that we tend to turn on them if they aren't exactly why they've been hyped to be? It might not always be to blame, but it sure doesn't help, and it sure doesn't make it comfortable for players who aren't prepared for it. Vancouver has always been a hard market to excel in, because our history of being a sad sack franchise has conditioned us to hype and hope over every single player that puts on the uniform, even if that hype/hope isn't deserved. |

this fanbase has been tortured for years and years....there's a reason why they're like this. Hard to keep waving pom poms and give the team the benefit of the doubt when they usually screw up somehow.
I guarantee you that you'll see a more patient/happy fanabse if they actually start rebuilding properly because at least then the fans will have something to look forward to, a light at the end of this tunnel. Right now you have the media/management that keep saying "well these fans won't tolerate a rebuild so Vancouver can't do one"
well (frank) me, I guess Canuck fans will be happy to line up for years of mediocrity as the team continues to try and "stay competitive" with desperate UFA signings and random trades while trying to build for the future with less picks/prospects than other bottom feeders. That sounds much better!!!
Where do we sign up???? |

You're right, time will tell. I was just one of the few on here who hoped we didn't draft Dubois and was happy when CBJ took him. Just my opinion that he is overrated.
This year if we don't take one of the top 2 spots, I hope JB keeps his options open for trading down and stocking the prospect pool. |

I agree with this, but if you're talking about Virtanen, he kind of brought on himself as well. If he was giving it his all on and off the ice, it'd be easier to give the kid a break because it's not his fault that he doesn't have the talent. But instead he's no longer being physical, is not always in shape, etc. Those are all things in his control.
Guys like Schroeder, Gaunce....they worked hard on the ice but they just suck as 1st rounders. Gaunce can't just suddenly learn how to score goals and be respectable offensively. Schroeder couldn't magically grow and get stronger.
Jake can't develop better hockey sense or hands, but he can still be physical like he was in junior, can still actually be in shape at the start of the season, etc. |

I just think you need to give kids 2-4 years post draft to see what they can do. Its just not often that they join an NHL team full time post draft and make a difference. PLD still had 78 points in 48 games in the Q last year. 16 points in 12 playoff games. |
