Yeah, as a half-Jets fan I don't get it either.
He's truly a guy that his stats don't tell the whole story. He's brutal on D - sbroads24
They must really not like Trouba. Why else would a budget team commit that much money and term to a guy on the wrong side of 30 who cant play D and whose fitness was a question mark even in his prime.
I'd make a play for him |

Trouba would be costly.
Probably McCabe plus 8 to start |

....would anyone not do this?
Last summer we were both down for a risto/trouba swap.
a deal that lets us have both is spectacular |

I probably would. But I have no idea if that's even realistic

Id still push for it as its probably the only scenario in which you get a top pairing guy who helps now and 3-5 years from now. |

Wasn't noted Gunslinger, Poker Player, Ice water through his veins, Tim Murray hired largely on his "experience" of being the GM in Binghampton? In the end, all the Murrency and Premium Picks could help save the man. The Emperor whore no clothes. Even Garth finally admitted that
The NHL is an unforgiving league. All GM's work hard, long hours, know the players at the pro and junior levels. Botterill is not unique in that regard. He looks to be a good choice. But you will only know after two, maybe three years from now. Until then, chill with all the groundbreaking moves he will make. His competitors (those with actual GM experience) will be looking to achieve the same goals - EugenesAxe
Thank you ......... |

i realize but other teams will be looking for these guys too. and beyond that you have to find the right fit. You mentioned six names there, i see 3 names that could really fit in and help us right away one of whom (hamonic) probably wont be available at a price we like. - Sabresfan-365
And they HAVE to be character guys ...... like Terry says. |

I liked Murray, he was aggressive. I like aggressive, but in the end he failed for whatever reason...bad coach, bad trades, too cocky...whatever he was paid to win, and he lost...lets hope Botterill is the answer. - sabreswarpath
Yes he was and was fired for trying to do it too quickly. He should have tried to take 5 years doing it according to many. Botterill will fix that ..... he'll get rid of Kane, bolster Rochester and in 5 years we might be a contender. Hope that makes everyone happy. |

It sure seems like a no brainer, which means it has to cost more, right? |

No, he was fired for trying to do it too quickly and failed miserably. And yes if this team has to take a little more time to become a long term contender that will make everyone happy.
except you, apparently. |

ha, maybe, maybe not.
Contract status works in our favour as not too many teams could afford to give him the long term deal he wants.
Even if it cost more, im not sure how much is too much or what id say no to. Bringing him in solves a lot of problems |

Of course I would, which is why Gorges wouldbe the 7th Dman and his butt would be in the press box until an injury warranted his playing time, which would likely be often with how frequently injuries occur. - kingcong39
How's he gonna react to that though?
I'd rather just get Gorges off the roster & move on
I don't think the Sabres would play a rookie & bench a Vet like Gorges
If he's here, I think Guhle is in Rochester
Falk is likely our 7th |

I don't mind the wait ...... I just don't like the complete shift in strategy every 2 years.
FYI ... he didn't fail miserably. He would have had us in the playoffs next year. |
