Do we need to make another one of those "member berry" moments to see who didn't like this hire and who liked it?

Jochfr - Indifferent
Beezer33 - Botterill looking even better than Murray
Sabres 89 - Fire him already Stinks and has does nothing (Sarcasm)
Deuce81 - very appealing
BeadyEyedDouche - likes the Botteril hire
boos--likes his creds yet cautiously optimistic
Stripes - is on board with the hire
ChicmjBuffalo - Want's us to know that JBot was already a GM in the AHL
feet - withholding judgment for further review
burner087 - Likes his looks
Clown - is already drunk this morning but thinks the hiring is refreshing

SabresPancea- CTE!!!!!

Stripes is on board with the hire. He handled the presser very well and also did well on WGR later in the day.

What I really like is that he seems to want an organization chart similar to Pittsburgh with Rochester having it's own GM, and have a good structure.

He has said all the right things so far, the test will be can he put it all together. The biggest decision he has to make IMO is hiring the next coach. That will be the first major hurdle that can speed up or set the rebuild back IMO.

Then of course the blue line.

I like this guy. He does not have a bullish arrogance like GMTM did. If we take our time to select the right players and make the right moves we could be a playoff team. This is also a much more sustainable approach for future success.

I love what JB had to say about timelines and winning the cup. I think he's bang on in that you just try and field a highly competitive team every year and hope to break through one year. It takes a lot of luck and good-timing. For the Sabres, it isn't all doom-and-gloom and they probably aren't as far off as many of us might feel. Injuries hurt this team immensely last season. Teams like the Oilers and Leafs (who we like to compare ourselves too) did not feel even close to the same scope or severity of injuries to key players like the Sabres suffered through. With a little luck, and few additions, this team could very well be right in the mix next season.

I like the point that JB already has GM experience. It may have been in the AHL, but he was the one in charge of the Baby Penguins. I am encouraged by the fact that he wants to utilize that model he with Rochester.

What has happened here, GMTM in charge of both clubs, obviously hasn't worked so far. Rochester's record says a lot about this.

I like that he said that winning is a part of development. Because it is.

If the younger players don't know what it means to win before they get here, they are just happy to be here and won't put forth the extra effort needed to get to that next level. I think this is one of those ideas that Eichel was pissed about towards the end of the year last year.

Now, JB will have a lot to do in the coming weeks, but I think one of the more important ones will be the repairing of the relationships between the club and some of the players...good luck JB. I am rooting for you.

BTW, has anyone heard of any updates about Okposo?

My biggest takeaway was the focus on Rochester. Implementing a GM there. And how having a GM presence down there can elevate players games. I think he knows the importance of creating a competitive and winning team at the AHL level. You have to create an atmosphere where players are competing to win roster spots there first. I think this is something GMTM severely ignored.

Absolutely. Rochester has been horrible the past handful of years. You need to put a winning team together there first.

pham: I normally wouldn't tweet this, but I know many of you are concerned. I ran into Okposo and he looks great. Said he feels MUCH better.

I also liked how he said that just because a guy may be sent to Rochester to start the year doesn't mean that he can't be ready to be part of the NHL roster in the near future. He pointed to a few examples of that same thing in Pittsburgh.

I think the front office being able to communicate with the players as to where the stand in the organization is huge. Right now, I kind of feel like our "developing" guys are just floating around out there not really knowing any of that stuff. Seems Botterill wants everything from the front office straight through to the players to be pretty transparent.

Exactly. Which is why I almost wanted to bring up Nylander, etc just to get away from that mess of a team down there. How Is a guy supposed to learn and develop when hes on a losing team like that. Not saying the Sabres were much better but its just seemed kinda miserable down there for players the past few years

I think Nylander was almost better off staying in Sweden in hindsight

I think he looks good. Seems like a solid hire. But I'm still wary. Buffalo sports... where you may feel good for a month or so.. and then reality hits you square in the face.

clown-refreshing compared to the puppet and incompetent arrogant drunk we had in the past. Time we stop settling for mediocre gm's.

I love how anytime we hire a new guy (which happens a lot) we need to call everyone hes ever worked with to reassure us and make us feel better about the hire
