Did you see Florida is working out a deal with Vegas to have them possibly take both Marchessault AND Smith? After protecting Bjugstad's corpse? I love that.
Sheriff Tallon is back in town. - Mononoke
I bet, in his mind, he thinks he's selling high on Marchessault |

Smith too is a very strong possession player good for 45-50 normally. Those are two top 6 pieces an expansion team just might add like that. Those are mid 20s pieces to build around.
But I also read they may be working something for Galchenyuk -- Florida that is. But they'll still lose Marchessault likely to protected Bjugstad, Dale Tallon's first ever draft pick who he signed to a 6 year deal and who has had serious injury issues. I'm sure that was an objective decision. |

I could imagine them taking a step back (or just being mediocre again) next year and it resulting in a panic move. I'd definitely be keeping an eye on them as the season progresses.
I guess you could kind of call this a panic move, but I see this as more of a cleansing of the previous regime move. |

(frank)ing hilarious too that VGK are taking Reinhart from Edmonton. After all they riskily and stupidly gave up to trade for him (16th+33rd), he still has yet to establish himself in the NHL, and then they lose him for nothing. |

If -- and I repeat IF -- the Flyers move down, I likely wouldn't lose my poop mainly because Hextall understands the value of assets
I don't always love his idea of free agency, but by and large, the dude knows what stuff is worth in draft value
I'm not scared to move down. The Flyers' No. 1 centers -- very good players, all -- since 2008 have been some combination of Claude Giroux, Mike Richards and Jeff Carter
None of whom were Top 10 picks, all of whom have multiple 70-plus point seasons and/or All-Star game appearances, with Giroux being a Hart finalist |

McKenzie confirmed both Smith/Marchy going to VGK. Awesome move by Vegas. Maybe they have a second deal involved for one of them. I'd love to see how little they traded them for.
It's definitely more an asserting-his-power move than panic move. But doesn't prohibit it from being a dumb move. Tallon is a mediocre GM often trapped in the past, so no surprise. He didn't sign Smith. He didn't sign Marchy, and a 5'8 forward is probably nothing to him. |

Big? Eh, maybe $0.5 mil overpaid. Two of the last 4 years he's hit 50 points, and he's a strong possession player regardless. Coming off a down year, but that team was pretty messy and had issues scoring. 4 years x $5mil for a 26 year old in his prime doesn't seem all that big to me for a still good player. Likely he averages out as a 45 point guy. |

Joke is on Vegas really. Although there is probably some GM out there that still thinks they can make him a good defenseman |

It's just that at some point, yes, somebody can offer you enough to move down
I mean, seriously -- JVR was No. 2 in 2007. Voracek was, what, 7 or 8?
Honestly, they're pretty much the same player, right? Roughly the same value?
There's risk in everything you do. So yeah, the No. 2 pick could be amazing and if you move down, you could look bad
But at the same time, yeah, there's got to be a package that gets Hextall to "yes". You were picking 13th at season's end. You can't be sitting there thinking you were gonna get the No. 2 pick. It's house money, and you can either make the pick or see if somebody gives you enough to get to yes

Yeah, with Savard's contract for Jimmy Hayes (lol). But he chose Bjugstad to protect, like I said he's a player with a lot of history with him. Coming off a 14 point in 54 game season and some real bad head/back injuries, signed for 4 years @ $4.1 mil per. That is scary, and he chose him over both. |

No, absolutely -- what you said was on point. Just was clarifying, because I thought Tallon was the one who snagged him
