Nice blog but why is everyone saying their GM had a good draft. Shiny new pieces? I really think Sakic missed out making trades. Maker is a high risk high reward pick. Only one liked that Avs made. But why make that pick as if Avs need another small right shot PP QB type in 3+ years? Really confused what the plan is with Avs. Just complete Swiss cheese on decisions here.

Did sakic miss the boat on the trades, not really. The duchene thing sucks, but I don't fault the Avs for not moving him if they aren't getting good offers. If teams are scoffing at the price of a 1st rounder and a Young D...still hold out.

Strategy was simple. Best player available. Adding Makar and timmins to a growing d-core of meloche, Z, bigras and lindholm is solid. Henry another solid winger. Amazing for where we got him

Who do you think we go for on the backup goalie side? Martin could work if varly stays healthy IF. I feel we need a little more experience, if sakic does make some moves and this team, as highly unlikely as it is, becomes halfway decent out of nowhere,

What relevent moves have your Canucks done in the last few seasons? I think you guys are a prime example of a franchise with no direction. Are you all in? Are you rebuilding?

Love how most everyone praised this Makar and comparing him for the most part to Karlsson . The Avs were lucky he fell 1 spot to 4 and now all of the sudden this Guy sucks at D?? Maybe because he controlled the play most of his ice time, but we shall see in time .
I am a bit perturbed by the Duchene dilemma. Was hoping they could somehow land Carlo from the Bs or maybe one of the Canes stud D man. I think Sakic needs to take 2 prime pieces as long as they are good ones not crappy prospect etc. Most will agree a fresh start is needed for both sides at this juncture. Not a peep on #92 so assume he will be the captain next season unless some big offer is made in the next few months.

Loved watching Smirnov at Penn state. Still an up and coming program. I am rooting for him...to be traded lol. Nah I kid. Would be real cool to see him make the NHL

1) Stepan wan not traded for a top 10 pick and a Dman. Stepan AND Raanta were. They got a top line center(Borderline) and a young starting goaltender and the draft pick is in a weak draft which is why GMs are throwing these picks away. Coyotes got more value in that trade than the 7th pick would have.

2) Schenn's price wasnt actually that high, you also have to consider the Flyers took one of their bad contracts back who has 2 years left. Flyers got a 1st round pick in a weak draft + 1st next year as we know STL will be a contender again this season for a 50-60 pint player who is only 25 years old and taking the contract of an overpaid 29 year old player who's highest point total is 44 points and has declined every year since.

What Sakic is asking for Duchene is overpriced. He wants a 1st, a roster player and a top prospect. You are not going to get that for Duchene. That price is ridiculous and every GM knows it.

There's gotta be something that can be worked out. Between DeHaan, Devon Toews, multiple 1st rounders next year, and maybe Beauvillier? I'm not saying all of that, but some sort package built around a few of those.

Pierre Lebrun mentioned the best way to get the duchene deal done with nashville may be getting a 3rd team involved. What do you guys think the most likely scenario would be? I think a package of picks/prospects from nashville to anaheim for one of their good young d then that d man flipped from nashville to colorado for duchene. Especially since anaheim is trying to get under the cap and have also just lost shea theodore in expansion.

I don't get how people are saying Sakic is asking for way too much for Duchene. Then the same people say he was fleeced in the O'Reilly deal.

I hope Duchene isn't traded. I want to give Bednar a full year with all the pieces and see what happens. Last year sucked and I blame that on Roy quitting and Bednar having to deal with all of his problems with no time to prepare. I would trade Landy before I trade Duchene.

I don't think keeping duchene is a real option anymore at this point. This has been handled so poorly that I wouldn't be surprised if a trade request from him comes sooner than later especially with news of his agent talking to david poile.

I wouldnt trade Landy over Duchene...I would rather see Dutch, Barrie, EJ, Varly go before Landy.

Unless the Preds are ponying up Ellis, Ekholm or Josi I wouldn't do it. Poile said they're not going to go that route anyways. I don't think they're a good partner. I think it's down to Carolina and the Islanders.
