Didn't Tampa try to trade for him at the TDL but didn't pull the trigger because he didn't want to sign with them. Not sure if he didn't want to in season or at all, Yzerman just gave himself some nice cap room, would not be a good move to invest it in KS imo.

I'm hoping for Campbell or Daley on a very short deal and then be done. I wouldn't mind Vanek on a short deal, but that went out the window once we kept Moulson.

we're not really in a position to be giving out big deals to 3c's and vet d-men, the latter will likely go to a contender.

Its not that they''re not good options the timing is right this year.

I got lost in the Grigorenko --> Butcher changeover.

I highly doubt most prospects are treated poorly by an organization. It's possible that they simply don't see the organization that drafted them as the best opportunity. Personal reasons, career reasons can all tie into that. There doesn't have to exist some kind of personal vendetta for team vs player.

Some kids just want to live near home, or live in a big city, or live in a particular city, or play with other players that will help them excel.

Same goes with Vesey, Petersen, Butcher, Hayes and so forth.

That was about butcher....the Avs didnt show him any love till he got good, dont call me Ill call you...which is not true.

2 Years ago Roy told Butcher that they probably wont be signing him, at the time he wasnt showing much promise and wasnt a "Roy type Guy"

After that Sakic has been in contact with him and wanted to keep the conversations open. They expressed interest in signing him prior to this season but he wanted to play his final year, which he won the Hobey and basically a chance to be signed by an NHL club, bc realistically he isnt going to be a NHL player anytime soon if at all.

Butchers camp said they are still interested in signing with the Avs but wont do it prior to July 1st, he wants to see what the Avs depth chart is going to be like to see if he has any shot of making the team out of training camp (which he probably wouldnt)

The way it was phrased made it sound like the Avs are just incompetent ontop of being incompetent.

I dont fault the Avs or Butcher in this situation. If they signed him early he would have been just another small scooter Dman in the AHL struggling. He won the hobey on a powerhouse team and people are acting like Avs said No to a future Norris winner
