He's from Vancouver and apparently has always wanted to play here. I agree with your assessment, but I think there's more to this than just winning as we can afford to give him a bit more $$ too. - neem55
Gagner? Pretty sure hes from Ontario since he was a London Knight. Cant see VAN offering the money and term to make him want to come to another rebuild, 7 years in Edmonton and a year in AZ is enough losing for a career |

We have awarded Brock Boeser a spot on the top line with Bo, and awarded Goldobin a spot with the Sedins, because they have "earned" it
Gone are the days where kids came in, played limited minutes on the fourth line between players like Dorsett and Kenins, and earned the coaches trust. - Codes1087
Willie is gone, the kids can run free now! I'm betting they haze the Sedins on the first day of camp to make sure the twins know who's in charge |

Sorry, I don't know much about his past other than he played for SJ's farm team. I know he's shown flashes of his skill but how's his defensive side of the game & is it NHL ready? |

He grew up a good portion of his childhood in van, from what I've read. You might be right, just providing a foil as there's nothing defineitove about your argument. He'll want money and the opportunity to play for a winning team for sure though. Canucks can afford the first season one, definetly not the second |

Ah I see. Well he's played around 100 AHL games, his Ppg have bumped up each year. I guess I should say: I think he's a lock to make the roster, because he's one of the few young guys who has done well at the AHL level to deserve a shot. Definitely pffensive, but our lineup is starved for offence. |

NHL ready, don't put so much pressure on the kid. There is a difference between NHL ready and Canuck ready. |

on gagne, we certainly could use something fresh on the PP - SMBDragon
Simon is 37 years old and hasn't played in years ...hardly fresh |

That's right! How could I have forgot!
It's silly to suggest that any fringe prospect even be a lock to make the roster, let alone be a staple as a top 6 forward or top 4 D. These kids are young, and for us to do anything but keep them in Utica, could be leading us down a path that EDM fans were so used to seeing for so long. - Codes1087
Also projecting them anywhere is a stretch when you have no idea what ideas Green might have for lineups. Coaching an AHL team where youre told who you get is one thing, its another to have to construct the organizations entire depth chart |

Just don't sign anyone for more than 1, maybe 2 years max. That's all I ask. |

Exactly right. Which is even more why you take chances on Weal/Grigs/Yak/Gag type players. If the trade ask isn't too high, I'd also like Colin Miller from LVG |

I think targeting some mid range players like Gagner make sense in the current time frame of the rebuild or retooling, whatever you want to call it. Offer a fair 1 year contract and have the ability to send him or others to contenders come the trade deadline. |

Agreed, I am just speculating. There is a chance he comes here, but I consider it very low based on a lot of circumstances surrounding his free agency |

I would take Grig on a 1 year deal to be our 4c.
Gaunce-Grig-Dorsett is a decent 4th line. |

I fully expect him to re-up in Columbus, unless they aren't giving him an opportunity. |

If the goal is sign and deal at the TDL, what does age range matter?
I'd love a one year marleau at 3 million, if the goal is to trade him down the line. I think he'll get a better offer than that, just as an example of a older guy we could flip. |

I think top 9 players are pretty much a lock
Sedins
Eriksson
horvat
Granlund
Sven
Sutter
Dorsett
Boeser
that leaves 3 spots for......
Goldy
Boucher
Chaput
Megna
Gaunce
Virtanen
Molino
Labate
Rodin
man there's a good chance Chaput, Gaunce and Megna won't be on the team this year - that's exciting news!!
So I guess the real question is do we even need to sign anybody else??
But knowing JB, he'll probably want to "make a splash in FA"

I'd overpay on a 1 year deal if need be. If the market is super hot on someone like Marleau (per your example), sign him to a 1 year $7m deal, eat 50+% of his salary at TDL and move him for a better asset |

Unfortunately, we don't have that cap space but I really like these kind of moves. Toronto did it extremely well early in their rebuild to get more picks, hoping JB at least tries to. |
