Why do so many fans hate sports announcers? http://www.newsday.com/sp...rts-announcers-1.13765692

In MLB Analytics have their place. Successful teams still do the smell or eye test. Analytics in MLB can be completely misleading. For example a starting pitcher can have good WHIP and Strike-Out totals and other stats but have year after year of losing records even with good run support. If you watch this pitcher closely he will have one inning where he messes up just enough to give away wins. Not mentally tough enough to finish strong. Makes all the other stats border on the irrelevant, and perhaps totally irrelevant. Same with the NHL with stats like Corsi, which is actually a ridiculous stat without context.
- Z3Hawk

W/L pitcher's record as a stand-alone is the most misleading stat in baseball.

But since you mentioned it, I would like to see which pitchers (specifically starters) who have a good WHIP and K/9 yet have that dreaded W/L record.

I mention starters specifically since relievers typically don't have enough decisions to make sense either way.

With apologies to @68Jagr (see last retweets), nine teams have reached out to Patrick Sharp during the UFA "discussion" period.

I was looking at the CBJ usage chart on HockeyAbstract, which uses data from NST. He faced the 2nd lower QOC - Gagner was the lowest. If you focused on just his latter half, he'd be pretty much same as Gagner as they started him out higher.

Earlier, you mentioned 'Opposition corsi' - do you mean his QOC CF%? Or do you mean when he was on the ice specifically? Because low QOC CF% means he faced low QOC, not that the CF was low for his competition. Though being good at 3rd comp is still be good.

- L_B_R

I meant OPP CF %. But if he's facing lower QOC, then lower makes sense. It's an option on puckalytics. Not sure if it means their CF vesus him specifically or there CF% as a group.

Meh, ok. My condolences to TTTime.

- John Jaeckel

lol.

That's a good deal for the Flames. He was one of their best forward last year in the PO. He was creating chances every time he was out there. For a 3rd line depth scorer who will provide .50PPg, you can do a lot worse.

Ah yeah, OPP CF% is more of a WOWY stat - so look at what comp did on the ice with his vs what they did without him. Though to note, there's little variance for OOP CF as most players range from like 49-51.

Sign Hartnell for 2 years, $5M. He can more than able play the 2nd line with Kane and with AA or Schmaltz at center.

Sign Pouliot for 1 year, $1.5-$2M. There's your 3LW.

Gives the Hawks some flexibility if they decide to trade AA (assuming Kruger is a goner) for potentially a young forward or defenseman.

Saad-Toews-Panik
Hartnell-AA (or Schmaltz)-Kane
Pouliot-Schmaltz (or Dauphin)-Hartman
xxx-Vet good at FO & PK-xxx

I'm not sure HANA is supposed to provide a better end-user experience. I think it's supposed to provide a better ease of use and lower cost converged infrastructure ... but that is more marketing slop than real life experience ... so ... just another shiny object in the IT world

Savoy - give it a rest. Neither Hammer or Panarin were the cornerstones of the Hawks. They were parts. The trades were great trades for the Hawks. Console yourself by attending the Hall of Fame in Toronto, in the future, to cry in front of them. Oh sorry there is no chance they are making the Hall of Fame. Stop acting as if they they are Hall of Fame players. They were important parts, although not the most important parts and the Hawks will be just fine.
- Z3Hawk

Hes just here because Panarin got a restraining order so hes not allowed in the CBJ forum.

Oh yea, then add Dubinsky to that and Foligno too to an extent. Just a damn nasty group. As you mention a veteran too who knows all the damn tricks, all of them. ......... Maybe he ain't a bottom 6 fit but the Hawks gotta scrub that up and down as a franchise. ........ Are you in Columbus?
- Mr Ricochet

No I'm here in Chicago. JJ is in Columbus. He might have a story or two about Hartnell doing things as he's had more chances to watch him than I did. But you really have to have your nose on the glass and be watching just him behind the play to fully appreciate the bullpoop he gets away with.

CAR trades Eddie Lack, Ryan Murphy and 7th in 2019 to CGY for Keegan Kanzig and 6th in 2019. CAR retains 50 per cent salary on Lack. Dominos, Hurricanes 5m from cap floor?? One can hope!

Well, that's because they have 10 players going UFA or RFA. Schultz, Dumoulin, and Sheary are their big RFAs and they're potentially losing their 3C and 4C in Bonino and Cullen (may keep the former, but it might cost them). They're also losing on of their top 4 in Daley, possibly Kunitz who is a still a decent middle 6 player who plays a big leadership role for them, and may need to find a backup unless they want Jarry wasting away not playing much.

Carolina probably isn't all that interested in d-prospects as they have quite a few that are good quality. It's also doubtful they'd be interested in Anisimov for Rask - Rask had as many points as him, is 5 years younger, and doesn't have any of the injury history. If they go for a center, it would be for a legit 1C or at least one that would improve their production.

I agree, if they were to take Hossa's contract, they'd be looking for a much simpler deal.

Headline next October: 'Blackhawks really miss Hammer'. What a disaster that trade was.
- Savoy

Better yet...."Panarin really misses Kane. Torts makes him a healing scratch for refusing to skate within the dots"
