JJ is that you?
It may not be that bad. His replacement may not be the shut down defensive presence but at least he will make the opponent play in their end of the rink every now and then... Maybe even compel their goalie to make a save or two... - busmaster
One thing this team needs, either without Kruger or with an injured Kruger, is a secondary FO option that can do 50% or better, or you can forget about getting past the first round of the playoffs.
So while everyone fixates on Kruger's offensive numbers, there is a job that he's done (and that includes a LOT of transition from d- to o-zone and long o-zone possession, that needs to be replaced for this to be a better team or even as good as they were with him.

Small possibility Hossa could get dealt to a floor team in the next 48-72. Possible, not likely at this point. It's being explored. |

any chance we trade Hossa, much as I hate to say that of course, to a floor team and actually retain $1M in salary (in other words, his full salary) thus allowing the receiving team to have $4.25M cap hit with zero payout? yeah we'd have the $1M cap hit but that still frees up a full $4.25M per year for 4 years and could lower the potential cost to move him.
Thoughts?

That's a good idea actually, if we need to go that route. Personally, I would like Hossa to stay in the organization for a possible return. He's still a damn fine hockey player. Just LTIR him until he's ready to come back. Few players in history have been better over 200 feet, class act, warrior. Maybe his health (and heart) just isn't in it anymore. |

Agreed..but hopefully a decision is forthcoming so that additional moves will be made. The 2 so far are ok but this team still needs more to continue to get younger, faster, and bigger to keep the window open. It sure seems quiet for the day before free agency, throughout the league. |

Well yes, the 'Hawks aren't $3 million over with Hossa on the LTIR, but it doesn't make sense for Stan and Co. to LTIR him now because they would lose any cap flexibility they have in the regular season. It makes sense for Stan to rather have that extra ~$5 million in cap space in the regular season (around the trade deadline) by LTIR Hossa at the start of the regular season rather than now.
Also, it's inevitable that Kruger is traded, the team will be cap compliant that way, and I wouldn't expect much (if any) shuffling to occur unless AA is also moved. You can toy around with sending up/down of different players for cap purposes, but that's neither here nor there. The main point is that eventually when Hossa gets LTIR'd at the start of the season, the team won't be in as much of a crunch as many may think. But right now, technically speaking, they aren't over the cap until the regular season begins (since they can be up to 10% over it during the summer). - TommyHawk
Again, no the Hawks are not over the cap with Hossa on LTIR. First, because he is not on LTIR; and second, because if he was, they'd be under. I also wasn't advocating Hossa go on LTIR right, just pointing out that he's not thus your statement about them being over with him on it is factually incorrect. |
