Rust for Schmaltz would not be a good trade at all.

Yes, just say no to Sam Gagner!

There are 6 players currently with Vegas who I hope Bowman has some interest in:

P-E Bellemare
W Karlsson
W. Carrier
O. Lindberg
Colin Miller
Shea Theodore

They all fit from a salary perspective. What McPhee would be asking in return is another matter.

And I'm not totally convinced Kruger is going to Vegas, I could see Carolina or NJ or even NYR.

JR,

Not picking on you, but my head is going to explode if we continue to make assumptions about how a guy will play in Chicago on his numbers with another team (and a bad one), another coach, linemates etc.

This is how some have arrived at the conclusion that David Rundblad was really "great" when he played in Chicago.

Context is, in fact, everything.

- John Jaeckel

No one has said this except your boy Tanner. If you are going to call him out, call him out. Don't make it seem like a bunch of people from a group you love to pick on are making the same conclusions.

You know what, this is starting to piss people off..... If I'm the Hawks I move ahead as if Hossa's money is available and make the league stop me and if they do call Al Davis' or Jerry Jones' lawyer.

If does not matter too much if the NHL delays the decision or even if they decline the LTIR option. The Hawks can trade him either way.

If a team was far under the cap and traded for Hossa they would not need to put him on LTIR. They could keep him on the roster and not play him (just like a 22nd or 23rd roster player), pay him the $1mil in salary for 4 years, take the $5.25mil cap hit for 4 years, with the condition that Hossa agrees not to retire before the contract runs out. It is a win for Hossa. He still gets paid $1mil per year for 4 years for not playing. It is a win for the Hawks who would get $5.25mil in cap space. It would be a win for teams like Buffalo, Carolina, Buffalo, NJ, Nashville who need to be above the cap floor and have no intention of going up to the cap ceiling. They would get $5.25 mil in cap hit for 4 years and they would only pay out $1 mil per year. They would also get a prospect or picks from the Hawks for taking Hossa.

Right??

Would you trade Hossa, Hino and a 3rd round pick for the each of the next 4 drafts for Phoenix's 4th round pick in each of the next 4 drafts? More? Less?

- -Doh-

What you say is correct, however, how many teams are willing to admit that they will not be competitive and/or need cap space at some time over the next 4 years.

Take a team like Phoenix. They have some strong young players, that maybe if they click become competitive. Those players will all be coming off of their ELC's and look to get paid, and in addition, if the team is competitive, they will need cap space to acquire players and make playoff runs. Is a team like that willing to have $5.25m of dead cap space? If you don't LTIR him now, there is no chance you can do it in a couple of years if and when you need the space. If Hossa goes anywhere, it is on LTIR and not sitting on an active roster but not playing.

In regards to your last question, no, the Hawks don't make that deal. You are sending them a player and a pick maybe to make the deal, Not a player and 4 picks. Previous deals like Pronger and Datsyuk did not cost that much.

Oil players want to get paid. I say they win some hardware before asking for that kind of bank.

Refreshing to see a player Marchand willing to work with his team in holding salaries in line so they can put good players around him.

Like Hammer and to a lesser extent Kruger taking less with a handshake it will be made up on the next contract?

Kane and Toews had Won a Cup prior to signing their 6.3 per deals right? McDavid says a lot about who he is if he signs for 12+. If Chiarelli pays him and Draisaitl 21+ million, Stan is off the hook
- nickmo2699

They signed those deals in December, 2009 - so, before the Cup - but the deals took effect the next season.

Gagner would be a nice fit, but let's hedge our bets on a guy who's been somewhat ruined by Edmonton's awful management.

18 of his 50 points were on the Powerplay, where Tortorella had him on the first unit. Other than that he was 3rd/4th line and got roughly 13 minutes a night.

In Philadelphia he had a hard time cracking the top two lines. In EDM he was always the also ran to the trio of Hall, Eberle, RNH.

I wouldn't mind the Hawks taking a flier on Thomas Vanek. He's not the 65 point lock he once was, but if you shelter his defensive liabilities (boy are there a lot) and give him shooting opportunities, he'll still make goalies sh%& their pants.

Exhibit A: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pTWdONQwgBc

If we can get a Richards deal out of him, he can put goals away.

Great news love cramossa solid 4th liner reminds me of jake dowell. He can play w or center. Has there been any news on if the hawks might resign Latta? I know they didn't qualify him but could they get him on the cheap. He would be another good fit. Cramossa kero with Latta tootoo and jurco before he is a bust and sent to rockford.

How about this trade - Hossa to Ott for Anderson. Ottawa has an owner that keeps close to the floor, and Anderson is only signed through this year.

Yeah this is why I don't want NHL to change the cap sitituation, let's see how some of these teams navigate tthrough the way Pitt and Chicago has . With the cap going nowhere I like to see how Edmonton builds a Stanley Cup team with McDavid at over 14 and Drai with 8 or 9
Leafs will be in a similar poistion in a year or too

- HamiltonHawk

Back to the cap, I've thought about them setting up a cap market - call it Cap and Trade (since that didn't seem to work with carbon emissions).

Let the cap-strapped teams buy cap space from the budget teams, dollar for dollar - so if the Hawks are at the cap and want to sign a $2MM player, they would have to buy that cap space from, say, Arizona - and their $2MM player would cost them $4MM.

Kind of like the NBA's luxury tax, only a specific team would get the cash.

The downside would be that Arizona would possibly wind up being profitable by selling off their unused cap space - preferring that to actually trying to ice a quality team - but they aren't using the space, any ways - let some team willing to double-pay use the space.

His time in Edmonton seems to have gotten him a "defensive liability" moniker also. Undeserving. He's almost a 50/50 split in offensive and D-zone splits, and maintains 55% possession on all the teams he's been on outside EDM, even the Yotes.

Why would the Hawks get Latta again when they could have used him last year at any time, but passed? he's not an NHL level player anymore.

I am not pushing for Gagner!!

Gagner is, in my experience, a C/RW, not a natural left wing. I just don't see therefore, where he fits except at C.

My point is, he's better on draws and MORE of a natural set up guy than AA. Put a physical, road grader LW with Gagner and 88, you might have something. And Gagner would be cheaper than AA too.

Who was the LW when Richards (also tiny) played C with Kane on a Cup team? Hello?

Context, context, context.

- John Jaeckel

About the draws. Think I read two hockey books in my life and one was The Greatest Game about the Canadiens and the Red Army games back in the 70's. It was said how ScottyBow was adamant that the missing piece for his Canadiens was a face off guy and that he (can't remember who) was acquired and they did go on a cup winning streak after that.

With ScottyBow being an advisor and his boy the GM I can't understand how the importance if winning draws hasn't been a big priority for StanBow?

Didn't say you were pushing for Gagner and there is no comparison of Richards and Gagner as complete hockey players especially on the defensive side of the puck. Add Richards had 80+ point pedigree, Gagner 45 point. And who were the Hawk defenseman that year? ....... Agreed, context!!
- Mr Ricochet

Just citing Richards as a size comparator for Gagner. You made the point about Schmaltz (who I never brought up), Gagner and Kane as a line getting pushed around. I'm agreeing with You.
