It's hard to see the value in Pouliot. He's got a weird history of being good at times and not good most of the time. |

Agreed, there will be some incentive to take the contract, but don't forget that Phoenix also benefits by getting to the cap floor without having to spend actual dollars. Lets use a few of the deals as examples:
Pronger + Nicklas Grossmann, in exchange for forward Sam Gagner and a conditional draft pick (either a fourth-round draft pick in 2016 or a third-round draft pick in 2017).
Datsyuk + 16th overall pick in the 2016 NHL Entry Draft, in exchange for the 20th overall pick, the 53rd overall pick, and Joe Vitale. - TheTrob[21]
Bolland was traded along with prospect Lawson Crouse in exchange for a 2nd and 3rd round pick.
In all of these deals it was not just a dump of the contract. In every single one of them the team trading the bad contract received value back in the form of picks/prospects/players.
Was Crouse the player picked with the draft choice sent with Bolland? Big nasty boy that Crouse. |

A LW with size under 30? Why do you say no out of hand? |

Needs A LOT of work and continued of growth from Hartman, Schmaltz, Panik and Kempny or this team isn't winning jack squat. |

At best he is a reclamation project. Another guy who did real well in junior, and was a first round pick (I think) for someone, who never really translated junior success into NHL success other than being a journeyman. |

In reality, he's not great in a top 6 role for the money he makes, but I'm sure he'd be a fine bottom 6 wing. Do we need bottom 6 wings though? |

See my lineup above....we need GOOD NHL bottom 6 wings.
Pouliot, just like Gagner, for $1mil/year and 1-2 year term would be a GREAT addition. Pouliot is a similar player to Panik, IMO. He's a great 3rd/4th line energy guy with size, speed, and some ability to finish but if you HAVE to play him in the Top 6, there are worse options. I know Gagner has great skill, but he is tiny and this isnt the OHL, this is the Western Conference of the NHL. Like I said, if Gagner wants to come to Chicago for $1mil, sign me up. Anything beyond that, ehhhhhh...... |

Agree. Low salary is key to those guys. |

While I'm not defending them, I can see how other teams would be a little suspect about the Hossa issue.
Don't agree with it, but I understand how it could raise an eyebrow--especially with the Kane thing from a couple years back.

I remember that trade! I was crushed! Loved Savard, then remember this was the follow up news story, and thought, "what did we get!" Those were different times...at least he wasn't pulling a Kaner!

That is why I proposed including Hino and exchanging some picks. I asked if people thought I was offering too much or too little? I get the sense you are thinking it is too little. Another poster thought it was too much.

Hossas contract and Hino for some picks? Doesn't sound like an overpay to me. |

I would probably add Sharp (at a crazy low price on a tryout contract to see if he is healthy) because he is a LW. Then let Hartman play RW his natural position on the 3rd line with Hayden and Schmaltz. |

Oh, I didn't think he was a top 6 option. Looking at his stats now he's a mid 30's point guy and from what I can remember was a good skater. And IIRC he didn't use his big frame to play physical. ....... http://www.hockeydb.com/i...ts/pdisplay.php?pid=76875 |

Exchanging 4 picks is too much. Look at the other deals I posted. The team trading the contract received value, a player or a decent pick (or more). They didn't downgrade 4 picks. |

I'm going to guess the league allows us to LTIR Hossa. But, from my understanding, it does us no good until day 2 of the season....at which point all free agents will be signed and teams will not deal two days into the season. Sure, it gives us options in season....but I think everyone prefers we have the players at start of season and not at deadline.
My guess is the best thing that can happen would be to deal Hossa to a team needing to get to the cap floor. Then that would open up space for us for free agents.
That said, I imagine others teams would go through the roof on that. I can just see on July 1st the league allows Hoss to go to LTIR. On July 2nd we trade him to Hurricanes, Sabres, Coyotes or Devils. On July 3rd we sign a free agent for like $4 million per year.
I can see where other teams would not be happy. |

Right on Mr. ricochet, I had my eye onthat kid even before Dale picked him in Florida,I wonder what the plans are for him in Arizona and if Bowmans people are even interested in him,I am hoping there is some wheels to the Boone Jenner talk that would shut a lot of guys like myself up for a while since we have all been pining for the next Al Secord type player,I am also thrilled with Brandon Saad is back, I did not shed a tear at the loss of Artemi Panerin, yes he'll score goals but also felt he is a one trick pony. Now I hope the next move they make is sending Nick Schmaltz packing, unless I am proved wrong and I know people bring up the excuse about his age and his first year in the league you can't teach heart and you can't teach Gotts when it comes to playoff hockey, send him packing! |

Hossa contract + Hino + a swap of A pick isn't an overpay. Downgrading 4 picks IS an overpay, especially to a team that seems to value their picks. Again, look at the Datsyuk trade. Datsuyk and the 16th picks returned the 20th, 53rd and Joe Vitale.
This isn't a dump. The contract has value to Arizona. |

Thought AZ already said they have no interest in picking up the Hossa contract. |
