as has been posited by several others, the targets should be offensive players (vets or reclamation projects) on shorter term contracts.

i don't think any free agent should be seen as a "long term" canuck even if he succeeds on the team.

even if (especially?) if they do well, they should be traded for picks/prospects. rinse and repeat for a couple of years.

i would prefer management's vision to be "let's get some buffer type players and make them look good so we can trade them."

No, I'd be okay with both. Worst case is they suck and you waive them. Then they rip it up in the AHL or bolt to Tryamkin Land.
