i say 2 years for a young core to emerge. contending for a playoff spot in 4-5 years.

but making the playoffs and being a real contender is going to be a huge leap considering how the division is stacking up.

Well in the salary cap era teams cycles appear to be shorter. A few of these teams on the rise Edmonton, Toronto etc. will likely be trending down when we become legit contenders. I suppose I'm optimistic, but I envision playoffs in 3 years

i could see one of those anomaly seasons like colorado had. however, the team actually being a real playoff contender is still approx 5 years off imo.

That's the safe bet and is realistic to expect.

Though the game is changing a lot toward a young fast player type. So maybe a turnaround can happen sooner if the right mix clicks with potential being met by prospects.

I try to take it year by year as things seem to be able to change fast. Well success is hard and teams at the top can roll off more frequently now with these changing factors.
