It is pretty funny watching Edmonton dig itself into cap hell with Chiarelli at the helm.

Rathbone is all Brackett and I doubt it had anything to do with Demko. Agree on the others - CanuckDon
Yes true but Demko knows him and tweeted it out. So there is that. This kid is a mystery playing there few have info on him. He could be a gem but we won't know for 3 or 4 years if he develops enough to make it. |

the cap will go up because of this, ten million becomes a more common salary. they have the second best player in hockey for 8 years. I wouldn't mind that kind of hell. |

Sam Gagner was pretty effective on the point for CLB last year. As far as defensive capabilities, speed covers a multitude of sins. - we_are_all_canucks
We don't need another tiny forward that can't score at even strength...got lots thx. |

Weber didn't play PP for nashville.
D men pinching from the point, going between the hashmarks and to the net, and jumping into odd man rushes is the new norm. I agree it's not QB or whatever, but it is offensive minded enough to score and join the rush and find the lane. We have Stecher that can do this without getting burned, that's about it. We have Hutton that can do this, but not without getting torched consistently. Jb knows it and is trying I think. I would not be surprised to see kuliakov or delzotto given a shot. - neem55
I would really like to see Subban get a shot at 6/7th defensemen but to be used on the 1st PP unit. Give him 20-25 games and see what we've got. Everybody seems to say he has great offensive instincts but lacks defensive capabilities, so use him where he can grow and develop at the NHL level. We're not contending for the playoffs anyway so what can it hurt? A better shot at a high draft pick? |

Bottom line fact is they have played together, which is what I pointed out. You can predict other reasons with any of the players for why they were picked, but there is a pattern. There's obviously more to it, but it seems to be a factor IMO. |

Lucic
Russell

No thinking at all. He lacks defensively is no doubt.
How would he grow in the NHL when he cannot in the AHL.
At best a part time specialist is his ceiling for now. |

It will be a factor. Plus Buttman will help Vegas along by expanding the cap and we can expect a 32nd team in the NHL soon. Gary wants his 20 teams in the PO's...it's coming. |

Any player that sets a new high in salary pushes the cap up. Were going to see 10 again at least next year for Tavares in part because of this. as the average salary of players goes up, the cap will have to go up. It's economics. |

The organizations goal is to win hockey games, not achieve a high lottery pick. That is why Subban will play in the AHL. And that's completely ignoring the fact that there is no point rushing him into the NHL |

For our anemic power play? Okay. Bet you were a big fan of Jim Sandlak. - we_are_all_canucks
good one...
In all seriousness the Sedins/Edler won't be off PP1 for awhile. Bringing Gagner here to work with that well...we could spend the money better. Now if Bo/Boeser/Stecher are PP1 then one could make an argument for Gagner...but even then it's reaching. |

Demers is a good D-man.
he is 10X the d-man Kris Russell is in every facet of the game and only gets paid 500K more.
But there is nothing about this on twitter so it probably isn't true. |

Its called supply & demand.
As for cap rising then why does the NHLPA exercise their option for the escalator?
Escrow vs the low Canadian dollar.
That is called economics in the NHL. AKA cap hell for dumbass GM's. |

I like that Brackett seems to be running the entire draft now, Linden said some encouraging things about him:
1) He looked to trade down multiple times because he knew he could still a prospect he wanted a bit later. Even if no one bit on a trade, it's good to know that he was comfortable trading down and wasn't too paranoid about losing one of his target players
2) Kind of ties into the first point. He was high on Palmu and identified him as a target, but didn't reach for him and pulled the trigger on him late instead.
3) Apparently he's open minded to both analytics and just raw scouting. Matt Brassard likely falls into the category, since apparently loves to shoot the puck, so he makes sense as a bit more of an analytical pick as well as a pick that scouts would like since he has some nice attributes and is a project player with upside.
I feel good about him running the drafts for us |

You said a bunch of economic words without any real explanation, there are now 5 players making 10 million or more. There will be more now that this is a set precedent for agents. It's pretty simple: When every team has a 10 million dollar player, the cap will have to adjust. The nature of any capitalist system is to expand, as it did this year. |
