Thoughts on this getting it done?
Staal + Van Riemsdyk + 2mil/yr retained on Staal
FOR
Maatta + Sheary + Pouliot + 2nd in 2020
Otherwise, if no retained salary drop Pouliot and 2nd |

I agree the correct Staal is ERIC!
MIN has been gathering C's recently, I believe Eric Staal is expendable by MIN. Did GMJR originally draft Eric Staal in CAR? Maybe, GMJR has one more big move to get the big 3C that can be a 2C/1C fill in to have 3 amazing lines and have Malkin/Crosby insurance all in one! |

Great option as well! Would Sheary straight up get it done? |

Nah.
There's no reason for Carolina to trade him at this point. If we take back players on ELC's, we're back below the cap floor.
There's almost nothing that we can trade him for that would provide more value to what the Canes are trying to do than they would get by keeping him.
Skinner - Rask - Lindholm
Aho - Staal - Williams
Teravainen - Ryan - Stempniak
Nordstrom - Kruger - Jooris |

Yes, he did. And he's had experience playing on Sid's wing (Did it during the 2010 Olympics with Iginla on the other side) so he can slide up there if necessary too.
Eric would be a better option, but Minny might not trade him because he led them in scoring and is UBER affordable. |

Can we stop this? Just because one writer thought he'd be a good idea this ridiculous notion that CAR is gonna move Staal has gotten out of hand.
Maybe we should revisit Morozov? |

Summed it up really well there RW. Is there any indication that Carolina wants to move on from Staal, or is that just a Pens pipe dream?
I just don't know what the Pens would have to give up to acquire Staal. I don't think they need any D men, they are already loaded there. They probably want Sprong included in any deal. They are a budget team still so ditching Staal's salary long term might be in their interests. If so, maybe they would go for Sheary, Jarry and a 1st. |

J. Staal is a pretty good center whose main problem has been offensive scoring but as noted in the article he hasn't had the best of linemates. However, the younger player that the Canes have are showing more offensive acumen and Staal has responded with better offensive numbers last year. Also, would the Canes trade him to a division rival? I don't see this deal working unless it somehow allows the Canes to obtain a first line center from some other team. Otherwise, no reason for Canes to make this trade. |

None whatsoever.
The only way we're giving you Staal is in a package for Geno or Sid and the odds of that happening are microscopic.
Nothing else makes any sense at all. We can't take back a package because we have no roster space.
There's no reason to take back defense because, well, roster space.
We can't take back picks or ELC players because then we'll be under the cap floor.
There's nothing we can take back from you that will be equal value to what we'd be giving up. |

There's a 0.0% chance Staal gets moved to the Pens this year or likely anywhere. |

Jordan Staal is actually a bit of a drag on the production of offensively skilled players.
He whiffs on receiving passes like crazy, and his passing is a long way from precise. Time after time after time Elais Lindholm or Teuvo Teravainen would set him up, only to have Staal miss the puck.
That said, he has the unique ability to carry any line of any combination of junk players vs. elite talent and come out on top.
He's not a high-end producer, but he does put up 2nd line level production and there's nobody better at winning possession battles against high-end talent. |

Just say no. $6 million x 6 more years is a cap killer for a 3C. |

He's WAY better value than Toews. Hell, he's better than Marleau at this point, and Marleau got $6.25 so....

I think Eric could be a fit but what do you guys think of Granlund? He is a RFA I believe, either one would fit well as our 3C. |

Is Aston-Reese playing center in Wilkes Barre or wing? Small sample size but they seem to be thrilled about him. If he's playing center we wouldn't want to go get anyone that would block him from acquiring that 3c role. I don't think Bonino was this big offensive threat. He was slick, good on faceoffs, and good pk'r but also not very speedy. If we are just looking to replace that I think there has to be cheaper options then Jordan Staal. Don't get me wrong I'd love to have Staal but I just don't see Carolina moving Jordan. |

He's talking TVR and J Staal.
Also, GMJR just told DK and his guys Rowney will be 4C and trade talks for a 3C have all dried up, will revisit later in the off-season |

Pretty sure Minny made deals with Vegas so they wouldnt take Staal and a few of the defenders left exposed...so...to me that sounds like they want him/aren't interested in moving him. At 3.5 mill per how can you blame them? |
