You mean in less than 5 years you haven't taken a team and won a cup.. you need to get hosed on a deal and pooch your organization going forward?
Lol.
People are insane. Sign him to a shiny new contract, bring in some help, let Jost, Greer, Compher, etc. come in.. and go to work.
Do teams only fill their rosters with kids in their prime? Nope.
Do teams only fill their rosters with superstars? Nope.
Who do they expect to score goals? The Pens just won the cup without their best defensemen..
And it's not like they are astronomically deep on the back end..
One trade and the Avs suddenly possess a damn good roster, keeping Duchene if they wish.
He just wants to win. Go spend the money.
Prove to him you care.

Lots of work on D & G needed.
Like many teams it starts there. |

*IF* Varly is fixed.. finally... he is worth keeping. Maybe Sakic knows something? He is the GM.
Jost, Compher, Greer.. Zadorov.. Landeskog.. Duchene.. Rantanen.. MacKinnon.. Johnson... Barrie..
Suddenly it doesn't look so horrid.. put a few pieces around em, and let em do work. I can't imagine they feel good about losing last year..
If they are professionals and want to prove themselves.. well....
Moving Duchene simply to "move him" for a lesser package isn't the way to do it. If they have to negotiate and trade and sign they surely can later on, and if he were to agree to that they could fetch more for the Avs.
Will he do it? Who knows. I wish we could go back to that fist pump at the draft.
This is so sad. |

Who cares what other GMs think about Sakic's demands. Either they pay up for the Avs players or they don't. I'm fine with keeping Duchene. He's killer on the FOs and in drawing penalties. The Avs have plenty of cap space and their window for going for the cup will be a lot longer than people think. It's true, they've many young players so it may take a couple of seasons to get back into the playoffs. I think (hope) the Avs won't have another season from hell. But I'd rather not mortgage the future either. They're definitely going to be younger and, I think, faster. Hopefully the change in their assistant coaches will have a positive impact as well.

Nobody wants to trade much for losers. Duchene is basically Eberle, but at center.
There, I said what most other GMs are thinking. Maybe two other GMs out there are convinced that Duchene isn't part of the problem. Well... it was probably five GMs before watching him play at the IIHF Men's Worlds... |

A few things I've learned from Ek...
1. Malkin wants out of Pitt so he can be The Man
2. Leafs are IN on Vanek.
3. Sakic works for an owner who doesn't care what he does
4. MAF will be a Flyer
5. Leafs are close to acquiring a top dman who used to be an All star before the rule changes
6. Vegas should sign Draisaitl to an Offer Sheet
7. Paul Byron will be traded for 2 high end defense prospects
8. GMs call Ek to know what he's hearing
9. Most GMs sign UFAs because their owners tell them to
10. Eichel is the Sabres real GM. |

Back to the AV's...
Some top end talent but its all young.
Horrible season & an easy target to pick on.
Roy was a flake.
Lacking a veteran core to stabilize the team.
D is very weak when Zadorov is forced into a top 4 role.
It looks worse than it is but a shake up is badly needed. |

one day he'll wake up and be 50 and see that life has passed him by while he spent all his time defending Joe Sakic and then this sudden epiphany will turn into sadness, despair and regret and eventually anger. Anger will lead to hate and then he'll join the dark side . - twiztedmike

I'm pretty sure the Isles have been fleeced so many times that their fans thought it was their turn to do it to someone else. - HarvP
Yes we were sure "Fleeced" in that Reinhardt trade that got us Bouv and Barzal. We were sure "fleeced" in the boychuk trade. The Leddy Trade, A-mack trade, Eberle trade, etc. etc. etc.... Fleeced. LOL.. enjoy your season Avs fans. |

I dont think any Islander fan can comment on the Gm of another team. That team has been run poorly for ages. - Mahewman
Didn't you have a cup winning team and traded away guys like Seguin, Hamilton, and Boychuk for nada? Okey dokie.. good talk. |

He's actually better than a Crosby/Ovechkin/Rico Fata hybrid, too. - eichiefs9
No He isn't.. but He might be better that a guy with a -62 career =/- with no heart. I am guessing Barzal scores more than 18 this year if he is on isles... just a guess. |

He didn't score more than 10 playing in juniors this season.
Everyone is excited about Barzal, and I personally think he's gonna be a really good player, but let's stop saying he's better than established NHL stars because that's utter nonsense. |
