Avs take some risk in an up and down prospect young DMan like him, same as other team taking on Duchene and his contract with 2 years remaining.

They 100% did want Hamonic. Staple reported that was a MUST from the Avs in the trade. They also wanted Barzal and Pulock which is a riot.

Fair Value is exactly that. Its that Dman of 25 years and younger or NHL ready prospect with the other pieces sliding in value based on the name of that Dman involved.

I think you will be surprised. Getting rid of the dead weight, aging, and slow players is addition by subtraction all by itself. Guys like Iginla could not hang anymore. Replacing those players with talented youth like Rantanen, Jost, Bigras, Andrighetto will also be a big improvement. Avs are improving on all fronts. I think they are going to have a big time resurgence. If they make the trade of Duchene for a top pairing Dman, I think they can make the playoffs! Tons of skill on this team, they just need to shed the dead weight and negativity. Refocus with their youth and speed, and watch out NHL. Don't forget the prospect of a healthy Varlamov, and the competition of a veteran in Bernier breathing down his neck. Lots of things to be positive about with the Avs. I love the youth movement!
