All these kids get too many hugs, fed too much anti-bullying propaganda to be tough nowadays.

To squash any chance of a threepeat? The notion that Crosby and Malkin play "scared", or will somehow be better because they have a meathead on their roster now (taking up a spot from someone who would most likely have been a better hockey player than him) is laughable.
87 and 71 are two of the dirtiest stars in the game today, and they take so much abuse in part, because of how they play. - wilkobecks
You mean meathead like Chris Neil? Your comment has measured 8.5 on the Spatsometer. Go play in traffic. |

I actually really like Matt Martin, I think he has a place on this team. I don't think anyone fears him though. When is the last time he definitively won a fight? This blog was getting a little too close to Garth territory for me. |

similar to Antropov? - jimi james
I had a white-hot, completely irrational hatred of Antropov from the day he was drafted.
Part of it was I hated Mike Smith so much - so drafting some POS out of Kazakhstan just confirmed my worst fears about Mike Smith.
And for some really, really weird reason, I wanted Mark Bell. I have no franking idea why - I have never, ever followed junior hockey. But for some reason, I had it in my head that Mark Bell was going to be all that and a bag of chips (yes, I know he was drafted before Antropov, but I've already told you that my hatred is irrational, so just go with it).
Anyhoo, I always hated Antropov.
I still do. |

Pastrnak? - Scabeh
That and Seguin (no brainer) have been it in the first round since god only knows when. They pick character players and projects. Look at that 2014 draft though. Holy poop
2014 1 25 David Pastrnak Czech Republic RW
2014 2 56 Ryan Donato United States C
2014 4 116 Danton Heinen Canada F
2014 5 146 Anders Bjork United States LW |

True: But there is a BIG gamechanger coming as far as toughness goes. He will be known as 'El Kabong'
His name is Eemeli
BIRTHYEAR 1999-03-06 BIRTHPLACE Joensuu, FIN
AGE 18 NATION Finland
POSITION D SHOOTS R
HEIGHT 200 cm / 6'7" WEIGHT 95 kg / 209 lbs

Holy crap.
You put him with the 2016 draft class:
J.D. Greenway - D - 6' 4"
Keaton Middleton - D - 6' 5"
Nicolas Mattinen - D - 6' 5"
And the Solar Bears may have the tallest defence corps in ECHL history!

Great hit. Superb.
But I'd probably give the decision to McCarron on the fight. A split decision, the home fans would boo Michael Buffer after he announced it, but McCarron with the win. |

I wasn't much of a fan either. But 1998 was a thin year for talent. Here's the top 20 Antropov wasn't close to being the worst of those picks.
1 Vincent Lecavalier (Center) Tampa Bay Lightning
2 David Legwand (Center) Nashville Predators
3 Brad Stuart (Defense) San Jose Sharks
4 Bryan Allen (Defense) Vancouver Canucks
5 Vitali Vishnevski (Defense) Mighty Ducks
6 Rico Fata (Right Wing) Calgary Flames
7 Manny Malhotra (Center) New York Rangers
8 Mark Bell (Center) Chicago Blackhawks
9 Michael Rupp (Left Wing) New York Islanders
10 Nikolai Antropov (Center) Toronto Maple Leafs
11 Jeff Heerema (Right Wing) Carolina
12 Alex Tanguay (Center) Colorado
13 Michael Henrich (Right Wing) Edmonton Oilers
14 Patrick DesRochers (Goaltender) Phoenix Coyotes
15 Mathieu Chouinard (Goaltender) Ottawa Senators
16 Eric Chouinard (Center) Montreal Canadiens
17 Martin Skoula (Defense) Colorado Avalanche
18 Dmitri Kalinin (Defense) Buffalo Sabres
19 Robyn Regehr (Defense) Colorado
20 Scott Parker (Right Wing) Colorado
Lots of shyte if you ask me.

He'll be a fine 4th liner with a scoring edge.
Not a great first round pick in the end but he'll play in the NHL. |

That's a typical Martin fight, he holds his own but doesn't really "beat" anyone. Great hit though, and that's part of what makes him useful. I just don't think anyone is afraid of him. |

i don't mind him as much as others, but his contract is pretty tradeable the 2 years. especially the last year after his $1M bonus is paid.

And the year Pavel Datsyuk was drafted by the Wings in the 6th round at #171. And Andrei Markov at #162 by Habs

Is anyone afraid of any NHL fighter?
I don't recall anyone really scaring other players. Chara I suppose |
