Lucas, you know I love you buddy.
But Matt Martin, as good of a guy he is and as good of a teamate he can be....
I completely disagree with him being a useful element on the ice and/or being "one of the best 4th liners in the game".
He's probably, imo, the worst contract on the Leafs too (unless Marleau blows more than expected).
Anyway, gotta love your optimism about your team as always! Cheers!

It's insane the Leafs still have Martin and that they pay him what they do. He's next to useless and his contract is hilarious. But he's old school hockey yadda yadda.......and taking the place of a skilled player for no reason! |

Lucas Neilson: Don’t underestimate the importance of Matt Martin Protection
I agree he gives confidence to players like Marner and Nylander, but when St Louis traded Ryan Reaves a player with similar skillset but only 1.125 cap hit to get a first round pick that ended up being Klim Kostin, I really thought, why didn't Lou do that deal? We have Rychel, he can play that role and has more skill. |

After our management seemingly being the only management in the league who knows how the CBA works, I trust their decision making on player utilization. |

I wondered why the back to back Stanley Cup champions added Ryan Reeves |

Most still do.
Or at least still wonder why it cost them a 1st round pick... |

I wondered why all the NHL GM's (apart from paranoia about Russia players fleeing back to the KHL when they tripped over their Richards in the NHL) passed on Klim Kostin

And why the Leafs wouldn't take a flyer on a 6'3" RW that has a lights out shot and hits like a truck. Would have been a much cheaper acquisition than the flop otherwise know as Tyler Biggs. |

Agree 100%
Martin is our only tough guy left ( no Polak, Gauthier or Boyle to start year) which were the only other guys to step up in the under card
I would venture to say we need to add another tough dman in order to protect the young guns who will be getting targeted physically this year

Because Kapenan or Brown can protect little Mitchy?
Go away Tanner.
I think having one of the best checkers in the league that's fast and can drop the gloves to protect the rookies is worth $2.5mm a year!
Good Blog Lucas.
I also think that if MiB SUCKED IT with Lums,
it might delay his C0CK BLOCK Blog for a few hours.
Just sayin! |

Gauthier isn't tough.... it's not because you're big that you are....
Case and point: Hal Gill. |

True but who will step up when other teams start to lay the body/slash on Nylander, Marner to an extent Matthews or other team mates. Who's going to stand up for them? Kadri |

I'll happily pay Martin if all he does is go after Jake Dotchin.
Matthews, Kapanen and Gauthier have been targeted by him. |

Gauthier fought during a line brawl this year and did surprisingly well 🥊 |
