Lamoriello says it Liljegren will either be playing pro in Sweden or with the Marlies next season. One or the other. - Tumbleweed
He wants to stay in Sweden. I found it funny when he said he would be playing there. Iif he is capable of the AHL, the Leafs will want him on the Marlies.

I agree and it their other bad contracts will make re-loading a long process. Which is why I think Doughty will get shipped. Unless Brown and Gaborik get a sudden incurable case of diper-rash like Hossa. - winsix
The Blackhawks are making a fortune selling game worn Hossa jocks to other teams. |

There are pros and cons about Liljegren in the AHL, on the plus he should do very well because he has talent, he would be in town and be an easy call up if required. On the negative, players (dirtbags) like Dotchin are a dime a dozen in the AHL and will be looking to knock his block off.

The Leafs have plenty of skill, which is precisely why they didn't expose Martin. He's highly overpaid, but he provides a very important role on this team, and I'm sure we'll keep him around until the kids put on some extra pounds and can handle themselves a little better.
Replacing his minutes with a "skilled player" won't do anywhere near as much good as you think it would. The game is getting faster and skilled players are becoming more valuable to teams, but this is still hockey and you need warriors who will bang bodies. |

The Swedes seem to do kind of a nice job preparing D for the NHL...
I can't imagine him going to the Marlies unless he can't get the proper role/minutes in Europe. |

Huge payment for Reaves! But I guess they witnessed enough of Crosby getting roughed up? Lol,but Martin's contributions are definitely undervalued by some! I remember the interviews of nylander, Reilly, bozak and especially matthews and marner saying that Martin is a huge peice and part of the team! Allowing them to do what they do! If you go after those players take liberties, then be prepared to fight or take a huge hit, you go after our stars he'll go after you and yours! For those who say Martin is a waste or to much money? Then we're all in big trouble! Cause those guys and leafs management team, and coaching staff love Martin, And all the armchair gms and coaches out there, who say other wise,I guess that makes the entire leaf organization franked! It sucks cause I was just starting to get excited! # doomed! - MR.Hunter
If they can't see it on a graph it doesnt exist...that's the Martin haters.
Probably never been body checked and grew up sheltered wearing a helmet on the bus to school.

If a young forward in our system was going to lose development time, this would be the year to lose. We are so deep at the position. I was really looking forward to him being a force on the Marlies though, he'll get his chance. |

Martin hits and can fight.
although I feel after his lost fight vs McQuaid he lost a bit of his step last year - always thought he got some kind of concussion there..
it's ridiculous to say that Martin is a waste of a roster spot - there's only a few really good players (Matthews - Marner - Nylander) and then the rest are basically fillers that need to play a specific role.
The role of forechecking, punishing opponents with hits and wearing them done is something Martin (and Komarov) does quite well.
Kapanen will never reach the Marner-Matthews-Nylander category of putting up points; in that perspective Kapanen is more of a waste of roster spot than Martin. - MaximusAurelius

Imo you need some 'heavy' aspects to a team, guys like Martin bring that. Sure I'd like to have a guy that plays heavy and has more skills as well, but that's rare. |

Also I've said it before, Martin to Marner is like when you have a champion racehorse, and you have a donkey in the barn to keep it company and the horse loves the donkey. You can't take away Marner's donkey. |

Completely agree with Martin being best 4th line winger in the game. However, a guy who plays such a gritty style of game doesn't necessarily have a lot left in the tank at age 28. He is in his prime now, and will start to slow down in the next few seasons. |

Sounds like he's not overpaid if he plays a "very important role" on this team. |

I didn't sign him to his contract, but I can have an opinion on his role. I think 2.5 mill is high for Martin when they signed him, but when I look at the # of young players on this team night in and night out, I'm glad they did. Leaf management are smarter than I am, and in this case I definitely think they made the right call. |
