The future is bright you might need to wear those eclipse glasses to watch the Flyers games in a year or 2.

Offseason surgery followed. Renberg was forced to withdraw from the 1996 World Cup of Hockey, the first official event held at the brand new Wells Fargo Center (then called CoreStates Center and originally known as Spectrum II). In his absence, Team Sweden still managed to reach the tournament semi-finals before losing a double-overtime heartbreaker to Team Canada in Philadelphia.

I've been to countless Flyers games, including the 2010 Stanley Cup Finals, 2012 Game 3 vs. Pittsburgh, and most of the games between 2009 and 2014. But this game, which was less than a half minute from going to Triple OT, is the best hockey game I've ever seen, and I doubt I'll ever see a better one.

Shame that Renberg didn't have the advantages of today's medicine when he was first injured. He was such an explosive player prior to the injuries. In fact, during the 94-95 shortened season, I often felt that it was Renberg and Lindros that really drove the line while Leclair used his strength to go to the net and finish. There is no doubt in my mind that if Renberg had remained healthy in 95-96, that the Flyers would have beat the Panthers and at least got to the finals again that season. That team was loaded.

That 1995-96 was good enough to win the Cup or, at the very least, engage the Avalanche in a classic Stanley Cup Final.

Not sure what happened in that series against the Panthers except that the Flyers fell apart after losing game 4 in OT and game 5 in double OT (which only went to double OT because Hextall stood on his head as Florida began to dominate). The Flyers didn't put up much of a fight in Game Six; a huge disappointment.

The Panthers' constant clutching-and-grabbing was way out of hand, though. Florida would not only do that but would ice the puck every chance they had or else "accidentally" flip pucks over the glass from the defensive zone (before that was a penalty). Did the same thing to the Penguins in the Eastern Conference Final.

just a quick question brought up by another Eklund "rumor", does anyone think re-acquiring JVR, and putting him on the top line with G, would ignite some type of fire for that line? They are great friends, played well together prior to the trade with Asham, and is a legit scoring LW. I know our top 9 is crowded as it is, but I doubt he would cost what some of the other top LW scorers would cost.

I know it doesn't necessarily fit what we are doing, but if we had the space, and roster spots, I feel it would definitely help out the first line. I was never a fan of trading JVR in the first place, mostly due to his herculean effort against the Bruins in the 2010-11 second round sweep, and always wanted to see what him and G could do over the course of their primes.

JVR - G - Jake
Konecny - Patrick - Simmonds
Filppula - Couts - Weal
Lindblom - Raffl/Lehtera - Weise

Laughton, Vecchione, Read to LHV, Raffl/Weise as the 13th skater

Whenever I see that name I automatically think - Boston could have drafted this line in the 2015 first round.

Boy ain't that the truth. That Panther's team would have spent the entire game shorthanded under today's rules. I think what happened was that the Flyers let the Panthers get in their heads and frustrate them and it really took them off their game at times. Still though, when Renberg was healthy, the Legion was unstoppable and I think they would have found a way to get past the Panthers.

Renberg was the JOB of the NHL. God inflicted many woes on him and he kept coming back. When I hear detached from the pubic bone, I hang up my skates.

The question is always "what goes the other way?". I don't see a match as trading partners in a theoretical deal to bring back JVR. Hextall is adamant that he won't trade for players in their late 20s at a cost of top prospects or 1st round picks. But what else could the Flyers realistically trade for him?

Anybody have an updated weight on Sanheim. Saw 6'3 181 on his NHL profile but seems low.

The Flyers rookie camp roster lists Sanheim as 6'4", 199, as does the Phantoms website.

http://www.phantomshockey...om/player/travis-sanheim/

But the rookie camp roster has Willcox as 6'3", 183 when he's listed as 6'4", 205 on the Phantoms website.

http://www.phantomshockey...com/player/reece-willcox/

It's disappointing that the Flyers organization can't be bothered to be accurate with stuff like this. There's no way Laberge is still only 162 pounds.

What's JVR's value even as a soon-to-be UFA who will command a raise?

Since I expect Hagg/Morin to start with the Flyers and Sanheim to start in the AHL, I wouldn't offer a d prospect.

Having said that, if Sanheim has a great camp and forces Hexy to keep him up, I'd consider exploring Hagg and STL's 2018 1st before the year starts. But I really Dk if this offer would be over payment or not enough; just don't know JVR's value.

They really blew it but I think Chabot may be who the most regret passing on.
