I think Patrick's situation is a similar scenerio as last season when everyone kind of anticipated Provorov making the roster and Hextall did not want to say it was a guarantee (which he shouldn't do anyway).

I still remember the sick feeling in my stomach when Pronger took that stick to the eye. I think every fan knew it was a real serious injury and effectively closed our SC window at that time. That was a real bummer, but on the bright side Pronger seems to be doing well these days.

I was at the game, and we had no idea what had actually happened. I was calling my friend and he told me it looked like another Berard. Maybe, MAYBE, if he'd a longer time off to be symptom-free he could have resumed his career. Shame, he was an absolutely fantastic player even late in his career.

Edit: I forgot that he almost died when he took a slap shot to the heart.

for sure....But I agree with Bill's overall assessment of where he is. It's not fair to other young players and guys trying to make the team to differentiate Patrick from the other guys. I think Patrick will actually be a better player then most pundits think.

He really was a special talent....and the loss set the Flyers back and changed the trajectory of the organization.

How did I just discover now that Pronger and I share the same bday? We have some good company with Philly legend Pat "The Bat" Burrell. Pronger's post-concussion symptoms have such a major impact on our club. I always wondered how Bryz's tenure with us could have been different had Pronger been around.

Bryzgalov would have been a god here if Pronger wasn't derailed within his career. I have no way of knowing this for sure but just a hunch. Bryz's issues didn't start with his play. It started because he openly stated that he likes reading and discovery channel (not these exact words obviously) .

makes you wonder. Crazy how recent it was that teams were still letting players do this

Problem was he didn't realize the tiredness and lethargy (which were his symptoms the first couple of weeks) were symptoms of concussion and never mentioned them. Better education of players would help. But even then, depending on the guy, they may hide them depending on their own sense of vulnerability professionally or invulnerability physically.

I think it's a fair hunch though... Pronger was a legitimate #1 top pairing dman; he arguably could have played with anyone as a D partner. Our top 4 from 2010-2011 would have been a humongous (see what I did there) help for Bryz. And Pronger's presence and leadership perhaps could have kept Bryz more on the rails.

We'll have Sanheim, Myers, Ghost and Provy to do that.

I was at the 1996 World Cup USA vs Canada opening game. Figures the new building's inaugural event would have a line brawl 20 seconds in. Notice that Lindros grabs Joel Otto and pulls him out of the scrum. Loved seeing Claude Lemieux get beat up and thrown out 20 seconds in (sadly, Tkachuk was also thrown out). I think this was also the game where Hatcher punched the referee, although that could have been Game 1 of the Finals.

So was I.

Such a great atmosphere and a great game.

I've said it a billion times, but those World Cup games were some of the best hockey I've ever seen.
