This has got to be a tough contract for Treliving. Kid has skill and unfortunatley for him he plays the 2 positions the flames are very deep at. With the surprise chemistry of tkachuk on the 3m line Bennett has to usurp either gaudreau or tkachuk on the LW or monahan or backlund at the C. If Bennett was in draisitl's position and played top 6 mins with a guy like mcdavid he would be the one holding a massive new contract. But as it stands he is a 4th overall pick given small mins and poor line mates (Brouwer cough cough). I would like to see if he can transition to a RW or maybe even give tkachuk a shot on the top line as he has played RW and let Bennett skate with backs and frolik. Either way if Bennett can pick up where he left off in the playoffs he should be in line for a nice bounce back season

If Sam wants to take his puck and go to Europe, then the Flames should offer to buy him the plane ticket. Tell him it will be good for his development, and wish him luck.
With the competition for his spot in the main line-up here, he'd need cajones the size of a dinosaur's to accept the plane ticket instead of whatever contract the Flames are offering.

Weird move for the Bennett camp to pull. He should take a two year bridge deal of whatever qualifying offer his team is giving him and work his butt off to earn a bigger second contract.

Any chance the Flames are trying to low ball him with a longer term offer at a reduced contract?

Accepted as long as you make it over 7,851,948. I think I will like where you are drafting.

I am hoping they are trying to get him on a 6 year deal at a Backlund/Brodie type of contract. I do understand Bennett a bit here. Backlund is about to get #2line C money. If he does & Monahan is already in the 1C with Gaudreau, where does that leave Bennetts ceiling #3. I think the comoromise is give him his 2.75 mill for 1 year & then lets see what happens with Backlund (do we resign him) & we have a year intel on Janko & Lazar who seem to be perfect for that 3rd line C. Put Tkachuk with Bennett this year & see what happens, depending on that, it may impact Backlunds deal. I think Treliving needs one more year to make the best decisions.

nope 2 year 5.5m deal so you have to qualify him at 6m next time.

2.5 mil for 2 years.

And unless they are willing to break up the 3M line to pair him with Tkachuk, move him to wing and pair him with Jankowski (with Versteeg on the right side). I still think he is much better suited to play the wing, and if Jankowski is ready he is better suited at Centre.

If there is an injury at centre then Bennett can shift and fill in there. If perhaps Ferland falters on the first line, swap him and Bennett around.
