I don't care if the picks didn't make the team.

I don't think anyone, including Hextall, expected that this deal would improve the team this season. I think that Hextall believes that a bounceback year from Giroux, The additions of Patrick, Lindblom, Lehtera, along with an improvement in Konecny, Laughton, Provorov, Ghost, and the 4th line in general will make up for the Schenn production lost. Hell, even throw in Couturier and Voracek having better seasons.

I don't even think it is that big of a leap to expect at least the majority of those things to happen.

Agreed, not necessarily a deal to improve the immediate future but one he could afford to make. When someone offers you peak value in that position, you make the deal. The loss of Schenn is not going to make or break this season. It's going to create opportunities for a stacked farm system and hopefully provide another couple blue chip prospects. Frost is getting rave reviews to start out his junior season.

I don't think anyone expected Frost and Ratcliffe to make the team, so the payoff is down the road on the deal but the season is right around the corner. Even if the Flyers do improve somewhat on both offense and defense, there isn't any margin for error if they want to make the playoffs. Pretty much everything has to break right for them and it will still be a push.

Frost is so good that Bill didn't even have to mention his name in today's blog.

I think this was the case with Schenn, as well. The dude is a good PP producer, but is pretty much a black hole on both sides of the puck in other situations. Not that you can discount special teams, but ES is more important.

Agreed!

Another thing: the Flyers didn't start the year as a low scoring team last season; if I remember correctly we were one of the higher scoring teams. And I think this year's opening night roster will be better and have more depth compared to last years. I'm reaaaally hoping a bounce back year for both Jake and G are due with the added depth throughout the lineup (both forwards and dmen).

I like that Morin is not part of tonight's lineup.

Seeing as it's Flyers/Rags, I do expect some shenanigans to go down tonight. If that's the case, I want Morin to be around just in case there's any carry-over tomorrow.

I don't want Morin to be nothing but a goon, but at some point, he will have to go a handful of times.

Frost and next year's TBD pick then. It's down the road anyway, I'm not concerned about it now.

Yeah, I know. I just want to focus on rooting FOR the Flyers this year, not rooting against the Blues.

How did Stepan look? He went full bald this season, wonder if he gains an extra mph on skates

Yea it is a huge season for Raanta. He will get paid next summer if he can establish himself as a legit number one in Arizona

Because the fact that he wasn't part of the trade shows that he's lazy.

he's got the tools, in my opinion. he's very quick and super smooth moving around the crease. i don't put any stock in a pre-season game. it was a lot of weird rebound broken play garbage that went by him.
