If I recall we had been man handled by the ducks in playoffs.
With guys like Monahan, JG, and Bcakland who don't have much bite, and not having much prospect depth at wing, it was worth the gamble.
Where would Granland slot in today? Maybe on the 3rd line wing? But realistically the Flames are already full of undersized talented guys. - DuranDuran
I'd say he'd be in the top 9 somewhere. I just liked that he looked like he wanted to score even if it meant getting roughed up in front of the net. At this point, Shinkaruk looks like a miss. |

I agree with three players waived, not one of them looked like an NHL player last night. I think Lazar should go too. Sadly I thought it was a toss up between Kulak and Bartkowski, for who was better. I guess given the advanced stats, I can be convinced Kulak was. - bsimms
I am guessing they are giving him every chance to make some noise. Could see him being the last cut or being around as an extra. |

Not sure the guy would be in the top 6. And as it looks not sure if he would fit on the 3rd line. Both Byron and Granland went to teams that had more of an opening in their lineups and allowed them to flourish. Seems like it is easier to find those guys of their ilk. Would have been nice to get more than Shink though.
Anyways, coulda shoulda woulda. Seems like every team that wins the cup has some sort of luck with reclamation players. Have no issues with BT taking some chances to make the team more competitive. |

it would only be a loss if Shinkaruk was picked up, and went on to score 30 goals at the NHL level, until then it really doesn't matter. |

How funny would it be if he was claimed by the Nucks and then scored 30! |

Lol I honestly think COL is going to claim a ton of these players that went on waivers today. They are really hurting for talent, makes sense for them to take all 3 CGY waivers |

lol there is a couple new parody accounts in the Canucks blog, trying to drive out some of the posters that don't really get along with others.
I think Jankowski needs to be rewarded, he did his time in the AHL, and he is proving that he can play in the big leagues.
PS - I apologize in advance for any negativity you get from any Canuck posters regarding Shink on waivers. You lose some, and you win some. Nothing more. - Codes1087
Meh, the reason we traded Granlund was to find him a permanent gig somewhere. The return could have been nothing and it would still be the right move on the Flames' end.

I'll admit that I might be a little biased after paying a few hundred dollars to watch Bartkowski gift wrap a goal for the Ducks in game 4; but I thought he has been one of our worst dmen all pre-season.
Kulak #6
Tspoon #7
Call up Rass or Kylington if/when there are any lengthy injuries. |

Nope. not any fwds. They already are ahving issues figuring out their top 9 now since Kerfoot Duchene and Yakupov somehow become must watch TV with them on the ice
They will go claiming on dmen, but nothing this round. My guess is they are waiting for Vegas to send down Merrill or Reinhart |

At the time of the Granlund trade, I didn't see a single fan of either team saying Vancouver got a good deal. I saw the complete opposite. Now, of course, the Canucks won that trade by a mile, but nobody thought that at the time.
Not that it really matters now anyway, because I don't see where Granlund plays in our line up. He certainly isn't in our top 6, and he probably wouldn't be 3rd line, either. Only place I can see him slotting in is 4th libe RW, and even then there's quite a bit of competition for that slot. Granlund worked out, Shink didn't. Doesn't really matter either way since I don't really see Granlund cracking the Flames roster, either. It's one we lost. It happens. Not a big deal in this case anyway.
I think someone (Colorado) is definitely going to pick up Wotherspoon. He's a good player who fell victim to Calgary's insane depth on the backend. I think he'll make the NHL, just not with us. Wouldn't surprise me to see someone grab Shink, either. Regardless, doesn't really matter unless one of them become studs. |

They can only put in 1 claim. So if they did I would say they pick up Wotherspoon since last i looked they still only had 3 NHL D contracts. Would MTL consider Poirier as a french Canadian? |

Should kept he and Kulak as #6 and #7 and send down Bart. Nobody would claim him and if they did, who cares? |

They may be thinking that Bart can sit as the 7th
Wotherspoon needs ice time to continue to progress
if there's an injury, Spooner is called up and Bart only plays if he can't make it in time |

More cuts:
The Calgary Flames announced today that they have assigned five players to their American Hockey League affiliate, the Stockton Heat: David Rittich (G), Brett Pollock (LW), Morgan Klimchuk (LW), Ryan Lomberg (LW/C) and Spencer Foo (RW).
Calgary has also placed three players on waivers for the purpose of being assigned to Stockton: Hunter Shinkaruk (LW), Emile Poirier (RW) and Tyler Wotherspoon (D).
The Flames have assigned two players to their respective junior clubs: Dillon Dube (Kelowna/WHL) and Juuso Valimaki (Tri-City/WHL). |

When Bartkowski is part of your conversation you don't have any depth at that position.

lucky guess for you.
at the time. we were saturated with young centres so Granlund was about to be bypassed and giving him a shot would hinder the likes of Janko.
And we had zero scoring RW potentials.
trade made sense, nothing lost. was a hockey trade at the time.
I don't its anything lost. If any of those get picked up on waivers it lets others get the time they need. |

I really hope Cramarossa gets let go. That guy is horrible, couldn't even start a fight properly.
I get the sense Gadzic is going to just sit in the presser and eat up a space, just to show up in the odd game to make a point to some one. |

Not a guess. Watched a decent amount of AHL games that season. Watched him lots in the dub. Had a defined opinion based on watching him play. |

Why exactly does Poirier have to clear waivers but Klimchuk doesn't? Isn't six games less than what it takes for a season to count? And I also heard Hathaway wouldn't have to clear waivers if he was sent down. How does any of that make sense?
Are they just trying to give Poirier a fresh start somewhere else? |

It has to do with their birthdays the year they each signed. Poirier and klimchuk both signed when they were 18,but because poirier turned 19 before the end of the calender year his waiver age is different. Klimchuk as an 18 year old gets 5 years or 160 nhl games before becoming eligible. Poirier, classified as a 19 year old, gets 4 years or 160 nhl games. Both being on their 5th year means poirier is eligible now, klimchuk will be nrt season.
Hathaway is similar to poirier. He was signed at 23, but turned 24 before the end of the calender year. That means he only gets 2 years or 60 nhl games. This is his 3rd year so he will have to clear waivers. |
