I enjoyed having the Friday game, though.

And we are getting an early start on today's games—I've been keeping an eye on Philly/Edm on mute while writing.

Goons have feelings too. I see Dorsett sitting in some broken down hotel room listening to Snoop Dog reading this blog and busting a tear saying Oh No She Didn't

They’ve drafted well and have a MUCH better group than the Canucks so I want them to start competing.

Still don't think that Virtanen had actual control of the puck as he crossed the line, but the replay isn't conclusive enough to overturn.

The rule states:

83.1 Off-side - Players of the attacking team must not precede the puck
into the attacking zone.
The position of the player’s skates and not that of his stick shall be
the determining factor in all instances in deciding an off-side. A player
is off-side when both skates are completely over the leading edge of
the blue line involved in the play.
A player is on-side when either of his skates are in contact with, or
on his own side of the line, at the instant the puck completely crosses
the leading edge of the blue line regardless of the position of his stick.
However, a player actually controlling the puck who shall cross the
line ahead of the puck shall not be considered “off-side,” provided he
had possession and control of the puck prior to his skates crossing the
blue line.

It should be noted that while the position of the player’s skates is
what determines whether a player is “off-side,” nevertheless the
question of an “off-side” never arises until the puck has completely
crossed the leading edge of the blue line at which time the decision is
to be made.
If a player legally carries or passes the puck back into his own
defending zone while a player of the opposing team is in such
defending zone, the off-side shall be ignored and play permitted to
continue.

Again, looking at the replay, the question is, did he actually have possession and control of the puck before he crosses the line or is he trying to get possession and control still. The puck bounces to him inside the zone after he's already in and it is clear that he knows where the puck is and going and can take it once it settles, but at the speed he was going and the linesman making the call on the line, it's one of those 50/50 calls that always grate on the other team and tend to even out.

I guess I just wonder how that call didn't get overturned, especially when it results in the winning goal and a momentum killing penalty and it looks unclear on the replay if he had possession of the puck before he crosses the line. Not that it's a big deal 7 games in, I guess.
