Giving them enough rope to hang themselves perhaps. Hopefully that quality ice time isn't a directive from TL and Co. - VanHockeyGuy
Perhaps. I thought that one PP they had in the 2nd period last night looked dramatically better. They moved the puck quickly and decisively, almost like the kids were rubbing off of them |

I know we joke about this but when Eriksson is ready to return.... how is going to work? Who is coming out? A buy out would be catastrophic and I am not sure even available to us.
Does he have a NMC or NTC as maybe he can go to a team that needs to hit the cap floor. |

This is only thing I disagree with. The Sedin/Loui icetime is going to Dorsett, Vanek, Gagner. The core "young guys" from last year are nearly the same, and I am including the 9 games Boeser had last year. Its nice that the kids are more visible this year and playing well, but I figure this honeymoon phase (as someone called it) with TG will come to an end soon
The Sedin drop off is scary, less minutes and more PP yet nothing happening - WhiteLie
Maybe they are pouting? |

3 goals 5 points for Elias. One of best SHL games I've ever seen from a teenager.
Bigblugaru @bigbluegaru 21h21 hours ago
I’m happy but as Canucks fans how low have we stooped...celebrating some u20 says in Sweden.....how sad 😞
Joshua Jones
Celebrating a teenager dominating in a mens league is bad? Ok bud
Bigblugaru @bigbluegaru 21h21 hours ago
Missing my point, I’m happy ......but we’ve fallen so low that this is what we are celebrating; 5 yrs ago did you even know who we drafted
Joshua Jones @jaystewboy 21h21 hours ago
Pretty sure you're missing the point of having a prospect like EP. Who cares about 5 years ago when the convo is about his 5 points today
Bigblugaru @bigbluegaru 21h21 hours ago
Ok pal you win I guess you dont realize that we are a “down” franchise today as we speak not 5 years from now
Matthews Fan Account @danielroyyyy 21h21 hours ago
Obviously you guys are a "down" franchise...just be grateful you're a down franchise with an elite prospect?
Okay which one of you is "Bigblugaru" on twitter? |

I am not sure I can comment on quality. Someone was saying the Sedin's are getting the cushy O-Zone starts, and the top 6 PP icetimes among forwards are Sedin, Sedin, Baertschi, Vanek, Boeser, Gagner.
I do think the kids are more noticeable, and obviously are the point leaders. I just think its worth noting that numbers seem to suggest that TG relies on veterans as much as WD - WhiteLie
Veterans and younger players can still be one and the same FYI, Eriksson was averaging 11:58 before he was hurt, that's second last on the team to Jake Virtanen, not third most.
The bottom six players for average time on ice are Virtanen, Eriksson, Burmy, Vanek, Daniel and Henrik so I don't believe Greener relies on the veterans as you'd suggest. He's giving ice to Dorsett yes, but he's 30 not 37. He's giving ice to Gagner, who's 28, not in his mid 30's.
If Willie was still coaching IMO he'd have Boeser on the 3rd or 4th line with Dorsett and Burmistrov while Eriksson, Vanek and Granlund get prime minutes. Boeser went straight to the 1st line, Desjardins wouldn't have done that IMO. |

Last Year to start the season we were playoff bound.... don't be too disappointed if it all comes tumbling down. - Pres.cup
for sure. it is early. and like Whitefang, I am always expecting a little disappointment, a stumble like when we had the lead against Detroit, however many years ago, and then they came back and scored 6 in a row to beat us. ugh.
Bo was a 4th liner to start last season and everyone was up in arms.
what roles can players handle and can they handle it for a full season?
this is different. maybe not what everyone wanted with the ice time, but it is change.
I want to see the kids play, but I don't want to see them struggle. Doug Mclean talks about letting the kids play and then I think of Gilbert Brule probly being mishandled. |

I'd just like to point out. It was December 16th before that they got 6th regulation win last season. The wins are different this season. |

I think TG is just trying to hold the kids- JV, BB (maybe even Stecher and Pouliot) back a little. Guessing they are receiving lots of coaching and video feed back on their play. TG always has some great lines in his pressers about playing the right way.
its been a nice October but a lot of games ahead of us. how often have we had a 4 game win streak over the last 5 years? this is fun. - hillbillydeluxe
I wonder if its just a trust building thing, since hes only had the players for about 2 months of action.
I went back to Willie's first year and his forwards averaged 12-18 minutes per game. Excluding Virtanen, everyone else falls in the same range this year. As years went on the numbers get more skewed, so I imagine TG will probably follow suit and it wont be the Sedins |

He's sheltering them to protect the team, pure and simple. They're not quick enough to play well defensively so they get as many offensive zone starts as possible. That's to protect the team, not them, it's not about the Sedins, it's about the Canucks.
Last night the score was 6-1 and they got almost a full two minutes (1:21 I checked) on the PP with Jake even out there because of the score, Greener threw them a bone. That's why their PP time was elevated last night. |

Loui's TOI/game stat is heavily affected by him playing 32 seconds in a game before being injured. Take his other 3 games and he averages 15:40, which is 5th among forwards, possibly higher if his presence affects Baertschi's usage
I will say that I think TG is a better constructor of lines, the combinations make much more sense |

they're definitely playing better this year than last, for sure! I threw out the regulation wins thing last year and got poop on. A wins a win, right, haha, not so much. They look much better because their systems are better and their young players are better. |

This can be your post for the year!
A win is a win but for a developing team like this team, how they win is also important for the future aspect.
They have a rookie coach. Regular season is one ball game, playoffs is completely different.
Don't even have the highest 2 draft picks on the team. |

Fair point... except for one little factoid...
The question was when we had last won 4 in a row... i merely pointed out the 4 games we won to start the season last year and how high we (vantel, alone... nobody else) got before it crashed down around our ears. |

But nothing Donna. This is the new NHL. Look at the coyotes with their young analytic front office and their young players and their cap space and big trades and winless record. - manvanfan
As I said to neem about Dorsett...statistics is sooo last year.
Glad I was wrong about the score I pulled out of my ass. But Washington was still thinking about all that fun they had at the Roxy. Man they looked like crap, even OV going after Dorsett...head shaker moment. |

Washington isn't the team they were last season. They were missing there best center in Backstrom.
You can't take anything away from the Nucks, they played well. Converted their chances and out worked them for 2 periods.
It's not the first time Dorsett has got the other teams best player off their game. It's part of his job.
Just go with the eye test, the team looks better then last season so far. |

Kuznetzov was the only player bringing it. OV/backstrom were invisible, was that Tanev/Bo playing lights out? |
