I wish I had access to some of the data that Mike Kelly uses, as I agree more with his stance on where the shots are coming from. He has a ranking of shots from the slots (shot quality), which I think is more valuable to track than all shots

There's more to it than stats. Everyone that watches hockey saw what happened in Florida last year when they let the nerds takeover. trainwreck! Were seeing it again in Arizona, IMO you let Doan retire when he wants and anything else is bad for business. BUT, you can't throw the baby out with the bathwater. Stats are very relevant, they help paint a picture and will continue to be something that informs all hockey decisions. Qualitative and qualitative research both have their merit.
