October is done and they got 13 points out of it, one more than I figured they'd need to have a good month. They've dealt with some adversity to get there too with some key injuries and bad officiating to go along with the bumps that were more or less expected. So far, so good.

Bill, how dare you try and tell us that Sam Morin will not be the next Chris Pronger.

Yup, that's what I'm saying although with the injuries, November looks to be challenging.

Nice blog Bill and great insight on what to expect of these young dmen. I think Sanheim is going to just fine and Morin too but not to be too hard on them while they learn the nhl game. Hats off to S. Couturier my favourite whipping boy in the past. I love the way he is playing now and he actually deserves to be the team's number one center at this point. It is really obvious how valuable the Ghost is as he was really missed last night. Lots of teams are going to play the trap game like the Yotes did last night and Gost and Provy are the guys who can break it down. The team was not ready to play last night, trap or no trap you have to beat a winless team at home. Hoping for some serious regrouping and a split or better at CHI and STL.

Provorov said that, due to his intensive training regimen, he has "fast" recoveries between shifts. How fast? Twenty seconds or less.

...for the segment of Flyers fans who may have been watching the team for many years but learned precious little about the game...

I won't lie, I raised my fist in the air with approval.

Basically a big STFU to all the "basic stat gurus", "management assumers" and "our goalie sucks because we lost" who's hockey experience amounts to video games and wiggling around in sneakers shooting orange balls.

Thanks Bill! Made my day.

Class dismissed, people. And if you missed the learnings the first time, go back and read it again.

Just don't expect Morin to be The Terminator -- a one-man shutdown, hitting machine who can turn games around simply by his presence. That's not realistic, and expectations like those set a player up for failure. Also, keep in mind that shining in an NHL training camp and doing the same thing over the marathon-like regular season are two totally different things.

I don't expect it but I'll take it.

I think when Morin optimizes his positioning and play reading . . . . with that reach . . . he's going to be very effective. On top of that, the Top 4 looks to evolve without him. They only need him to be a 3rd pairing guy you can use on the PK.

This year is irrelevant in the grand scheme. Just play the kids, develop them and so be it.

Primetime is a few years away but truly coming closer.

I dont know where people are seeing these reactions r/t young players, but wonder why they would give a (frank) to begin with. These are the same morons that think you are cup bound just because you made the playoffs, and believe the team is still the Bulliesssss.

Are you saying your can only comment if you have a greater experience in more then this?

Who determines what experience you should have? How Much? Of what?

This statement is extremely confusing to me.

not sure where any of these guys will max out. No one really ever knows. There are going to be lumps for both Sanheim and Morin. I really think Morin brings a couple of elements you can't teach...size and toughness. Bill is spot on with Sanheim, glimpses, and I'm sure with any young player those will begin to appear more often as we continue on...(hopefully anyway)...as far as a ceiling for both??? skies the limit but it doesn't happen over night and both guys will have to take some lumps along the way.

Because Sanheim is literally the first Flyer EVER to struggle early in his career, and furthermore because he most definitely is THE ONLY FLYER I have ever seen in 40 years of watching this team to try an ill-advised pass instead of a taking a shot, I think not only is he not fit for the NHL, he never will be and should be tarred, feathered, and paraded around town on the back of a donkey before being exiled from Philadelphia forevermore.

Sanheim has showed me enough to see that he is going to be a strong two way defenseman if not an all star. Once a player like Konecny learns the NHL game and gains experience, he is going to be an impact player with his skill and determination. You can see it in Patrick with the raw skill and hockey sense and his overall play. It seems like it is taking forever but I the sun is getting brighter.

Yep, Morin can be a high end role player as a defenseman and take some of the hard minutes. If he be effective in that role, that will go a long way to making the Flyers a top team.
